I'm still navigating through this, my kids and I haven't been officially diagnosed, and we're about to start that journey. I'm researching obsessively so I can prepare the way for us all, but most of the references outline steps to take with helping the child understand things that...I can't teach. In fact, sign me up for some of those classes! :P It's very disheartening to think I could proceed with diagnosis and intervention and come up a complete failure because I'm just not equipped to help much.

Are there books out there for Aspie parents to help them parent their Aspie kids? Looking forward to any suggestions. Thanks.

Pretty much all the books talked about on this board should be in this thread:

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt121250.html

It may not have specifically what you are looking for, but hopefully something will be useful.

Yes, thank you, I saw the thread, but I am looking for something quite specific. I'm starting to think there isn't a way to do this, and I'm shutting down. I can't wade my way through a list of reference aimed at NT parents helping their Aspies get along with society...full of bulleted helpful things like setting up playdates and teaching them how to take an interest in their friends when I don't know how to do these things myself.

Don't shut down.

You have another resource: this board.

Some of our posting parents are AS; some are not; but we're always willing to try to help figure an issue out.

The number 1 problem I've seen with AS parents and kids seems to be what to do when your needs are in conflict: the AS child needs X but you can't provide it because with your AS you have need Z. That can be a tough one to cross, and it isn't always easy to figure out how to balance mom or dad's needs against the child's. Not something easily summarized for a book.
