Hello all

If you haven't read my previous post about my new book, then go check it out now because this post is about that:
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt134843.html

Anyways, I have a couple things to cover:

1. Some people have asked me what is different about the latest version vs. the version I sent out about 2 months ago. I went through the entire book and changed around some paragraphs to clear up confusion, and explain things better. Most of the extra pages came from the chapters about 'how it comes together', and 'handling problems'. I pretty much rewrote those 2 chapters. If you don't want to reread the entire book, but want to know what is new, then just read those 2 chapters, and you'll get the most important changes.

2. If you have read the book, did you have any suggestions about what topics you would like covered next. What do you feel needs more explanation. Etc? I am looking to do more writing, and I was wondering what issues remain unclear.

3. If you have browsed the website, can you think of anything else to add. Per request I have added an 'about the author' page, and also a donations page in case you want to donate. Do you think any more pages are needed, and if so what? Also, are there any questions about me that you would like to see added to the 'about the author' section.

4. Currently, my links page is just WP, and my friend at PECSforall.com I was hoping to expand that a bit more, and include some links to other people's blogs. If you have a blog, and would like me to list it in my links, then let me know what it is. We can do a cross promotional deal where I list your blog, and you make a post about my book.

I'm reading your book for the first time right now. So far i think it's great and goes a long way towards helping me better understand my son. I've had several "light bulb going on" moments and i'm sure i'll have many more by the time i'm done reading it. Thank you for the time and effort you have put into the project. :)

Peace

Hey Tracker, I am drowing in IEP stuff right now trying to prepare for my son's first one this fall, so I haven't had a chance to read your book but it is very much on my to-do list and I'm hoping to read it before our IEP. I think there are likely many others here who have read it, or will be reading it, and just are soooooo busy they don't get the chance to post about it :) Thank you so much for the time and effort you have taken to share your perspectives!

The website looks great. Found a grammar error on you about me page; if I get a chance, I'll copy over the paragraph. Otherwise, I'll let you play I spy on that ;) As if you don't have other things to do ;)

Think we can ever get you to post a picture?

If there is a grammatical error, I will have to take your word for it. My abilities with grammar are spotty at best. If it wasn't for the grammar checker in windows' word, then I would probably make a grammatical mistake every 3rd sentence, and a misspelling every 10th word.

So yeah, if the grammar checker in Word doesn't spot it, then I am not going to.

As far as the picture, I am somewhat hesitant. There are people in my life who would not take kindly to the idea of me being autistic. They are fine with me being strange, but they would never accept me as being autistic. I would rather not post a picture and risk outing myself, thus sabotaging a relationship without good reason. If you really need a picture of me then I can email you one :P

Oh Tracker, this just breaks my heart. I pray that someday, soon enough to matter to you (and to my own son) we will make this world a safe place where you can just be your true self. A beautifully different self.

Its just that the older people in my family have an outdated idea of what autism it. They assume that autism means completely ret*d and it's a horrible curse, etc. I'm pretty sure my grandmother thinks it is a form of demonic possession which can be fixed with enough prayer. They all think of me as 'unique' or 'a bit different', but not in a bad way per say. But if I said I was autistic, then they would be all up in arms denying it, or calling me a hypochondriac. Some of the more judgmental family members might accuse me of claiming a condition that I don't have in order to garner sympathy.

So, it isn't as though they don't like me being different (most of them dont care); they just don't know what autism is, and don't care to know. And I am not going to try explaining it to them when they definitely don't want to listen.

Sounds like a wise decision on your part Tracker. My Mother in Law is from that same generation/way of thinking. She told a relative that my son has Autism because I fed him too many avocados when he was little. Not even worth the effort it would take to argue THAT one.

I am going to be gone for about a week, and I wont be visiting the forums (at least not likely). If anybody happens to finish the book, and wants to provide feedback, then please leave a response in this thread. If you don't want to leave a public response, then feel free to PM me. I am still working on writing some more things, and I want to make sure to cover any areas that weren't properly covered with the book.

Also, I am still looking for additional people to add to my 'links' section. I have added Callista's Blog (it is a very nice blog). If you have any suggested sites you would like to see added, let me know.

And lastly, if you liked the book, then please do share it with others. I am not expected you to start an add campaign, but mentioning it on a blog, or emailing it to a friend, or posting about it on another forum would always be appreciated. I'm trying to do a 'social networking' campaign; but since I am not all that skilled in networking I have to convince other social people to do it for me. So, go be social, and network, and stuff.

Hey Tacker, put up a cute lil avi to satisfy our demanding nature. Doesn't have to be a pic of you, I'm surely not a fairy.

Yes, we deal with exactly this with my son, (though most often it is in a bad way) which is why we've chosen not to share his specific diagnosis with our family. Sigh. At least they accept you, even if they don't know exactly what they're accepting.

Hello, I am back.

It appears I didn't get much feedback while I was away but thats OK. If you do ever decide to read and review the book then just send me your opinion in a PM, or make a new post, or something. I can wait :P

Also, the offer for adding more blogs or websites to the links pages still stands. Let me know if you are interested.

PS.

You don't like my avatar? I think it is hilarious. Although it is avocado green, maybe thats why I am autistic... I should be more careful around that fruit.
