One of my sons is having a great week at school! They are doing cross country running in phys. ed, and he discovered that he is pretty fast. So instead of being the least coordinated kid who can't catch, sucks at every sport and has no idea what is even going on half the time...he got to be one of the "fastest kids in the class"! Next he has just started participating in a speaking program called TUSC, and even though he is exceedingly nervous before each presentation he has been scoring 4/5, and getting lots of positive feedback from his teacher and classmates. So the kid who would barely speak becomes the kid who gives speeches and has lots of interesting ideas! And last and best, something has clicked for him and math lately, and when he was doing math in a group today the other kids said that "he is one of the smartest kids in the class". This is the kid who was almost dxed with dyscalculia 2.5 years ago!! !

I think maybe it is because he is in grade 5, in a 4/5 split class. He is covering familiar material, and getting a chance to feel competent and discovering new talents. My husband and I were beside ourselves to see him come home from school happy. HAPPY?! 8O This never happens. I hope that these feelings of being successful stick with him during the tough times, because heaven knows he has enough of those.

I just wanted to share some good news. :D

Wonderful!

That was around the age my son started to really fit into his skin, and know what his gifts were. He had such a great year, and I started to feel secure that he could have a decent future. New challanges always find their way in later but, for now, just ...

Enjoy and watch him thrive!! !!

I have really noticed a difference lately in both our sons...maturity levels, stamina, self control, and awareness are all markedly increasing. And I am starting to see some hopefulness and confidence that was most definitely not there before. I will enjoy this as much as I can before the dreaded teen years descend! :)
