Hi I have not yet tried my daughter, 12, on any supplements apart from a flax oil one, but reading these posts talking about various things including inositol , vitamin b 6 etc, I feel I would like to . So went to the pharmacy yesterday to enquire and they'd never heard of inositol firstly as a product and secondly as helpful to aspergers, but the pharmacist was interested and going to do some research and I will return when she's done that. She felt vit b 6 needed to given cautiously and was not happy for me to buy it , without first looking into it more.
Anyway, basically, things are different in this country I suppose , (Ireland) but my question is, could parents strongly recommend certain products above others as being helpful in their experience?
If my daughter could be helped with issues like her oppositional attitude, volatile moods, diificulty with conversation, waking up in the night often, concentration issues, in a any little way, that would be a great help.
I am doing lots of reading myself, but I suppose I mean if any one thing stood out for parents I would glad to hear of it. I am interested more in supplements than medication.

I (age 27, non-parent) use something called Nerve Tonic, made by Hyland's. It's claimed to be 100% natural and homeopathic, which initially turned me off. Why? I had a lot of bad experiences with those products. Nothing harmful, just a complete lack of effectiveness. Maybe my aspie organism didn't respond to them, or maybe I'm just too smart to get the placebo effect. And since I don't want to get my name into the psych industry's records, I stay away from psychiatrists, let alone psychologists, who aren't even authorized to prescribe.

But much to my surprise, Nerve Tonic worked extremely well for me. Its ingredient list has things found in the periodic table, plus some with Latin-sounding names. It uses lactose as a base, so fair warning. I work in tech support, which could easily be one of the top ten most stressful lines of work (civilian work, at least). Yet, when I take 2 Nerve Tonic pills (standard adult dose), I start feeling more relaxed than Buddha under a tree, even at the end of a workday when I missed a deadline and three mission-critical computers crashed at the same time. (I'm surprised this stuff isn't illegal, lol. Let's keep quiet about it, lest the Feds find out.)

Sleep:
herbal calming tea
melatonin supplement
liquid calcium + magnesium
(all before bed)

I don't think I've ever noticeably benefited from another herbal or vitamin but I've taken lots.

Thanks for all those helpful tips. Will definitely check them out, that nerve tonic sounds interesting Aspie 1, might even take some myself, and wont tell anyone, I'll just become the new strangely chilled out parent of aspie child!

Can you let us know what the pharmacist says about inositol? I would really like to know.

I take 1mg of melatonin to help me sleep many days of the week. I like the low dose because I need to be able to wake for my baby.
