"Domain" meeting went well
We just had a "domain" meeting to update my son's 504, which went surprisingly well. I realize that getting a full-scale clinical diagnosis has put us in a much stronger position to get the things my son needs from school.
The meeting included someone from the school district, and most of the support team including the school's speech therapist, the OT, the social worker and the vice-principal. They will be doing close observation to assess his speech and his ability to regulate his emotions, and understood that he has good days and bad days - they'll be looking for scenarios where they know he will be more stressed.
Not sure where this is going, but it sure beats the heck out of "if you're having problems at home, there's nothing we can do about that."
Thank you. I think the take-away in our situation was to get our own clinical diagnosis that included recommendations from specialists in the field. The school diagnosis, although accurate, was so general as to be useless.
However, they do seem to be doing everything they can to improve the situation for my son going forwards (and, admittedly, he's really, really good at hiding his autism.)
