We'll be moving there this summer, and while that entire area is full of great schools, there are so many I don't know any of them (and we're overseas so I can't just pop over to see). DS is AS, but high AS. I thought about some of the private schools in the area that are focused on AS/ASD, but DS is what I call an "Aspie snob", and he wouldn't be happy.

Suggestions?

I've spoken at Ivymount, which is in Maryland. It seems to be a good school. Do you actually want an Aspie only school, though?

No, we do NOT want an AS school only for him. I call him an Aspie Snob b/c he will tell you that other AS traits/behaviors that he sees in others drive him up the wall. I'm talking to the point that we decided that his group at school (w/other AS/ASD) was just causing more stress on him, the other students, and the teacher and pulled him out of that group. He has managed to do pretty well with keeping things in check and is now starting to read people much better. I saw him stim for the first time (EVER) over Christmas while in a crowded situation. He just does better with older NTs than NTs his own age, or older HFAs.

Do you know where in NoVa you will be stationed yet? This will make a big difference in schools. It would be fairly impractical to look at schools in certain areas because the traffic would make it difficult. I grew up in Springfield. I would start by contacting this group: http://www.poac-nova.org/

I have some friends that are actively involved in this group. (It is Parents of Autism Children support network)
