Asturias (Leyenda) - Xuefei Yang

Perseverance...
is the steadfast adhering to a course of action...
despite difficulties in order to achieve a goal
(Never giving up...when the path is a correct one).

Not to be confused with...
Obstinance...
Stubornness...
Bullheadedness.
(Knowingly on the wrong path...yet remaining unyielding)

While perseverance...
is a natural derivation of passion...
(The path which one is passionate about...
is walked repetitiously...out of pleasure)

...it need not be.

While perseverance borne of passion
is of the highest form...
and usually produces the greatest achievers...
as it is a drive from within...
any channeled drive can induce perseverance.

Some people see a goal as a way to achieve
external rewards...
or to achieve freedom...
from unpleasantness or pain.

All are powerful motivators that feed the drives.

Once results are seen...
many externally rewarded people...
come to see the internal rewards of their perseverance.

I have found the most...
efficient and effective...
means of inducing perseverance in my son...
where there is no particular inherent passion...
in a particular area of study...
is to tie it in to his inherent love of learning...
of achieving goals through...
carefully mapped out...
and easily obtainable...
objectives.

He initially was not so enthusiastic...
about physical training.

As described in my article on Strength Training...

I had lain out a program...
delineating precise steps...
on easily attained...
objectives...
as a part of...
an overall growth...
goal.

With a master plan...
laid out before him...
and with the steps...
necessary to achieve it...
he could measure his progress...
every time he did it.

It is these small victories that make the journey...
so pleasurable
(success breeds success).

While it is these victories...
that drive him now...
he will soon come to have a passion...
for the exercises themselves...
once he experiences the biochemical
(mood elevating and body calming),
kinesthetic and ancillary rewards
derived from the physical pursuits.

At the risk of repeating myself...
into obnoxiousness...

it all relies on giving your child...
the LOVE of learning...
through Positive Reinforcement.

It is this basic drive that will serve him...
throughout life...
which gives him the...
primordial passion...
to excel through...
perseverance.

You could write that out as normal sentences, so I could read it.

I could have...
but that...
would have taken...
extra effort. :P

I took it right off my Blog. The Blog has very limited width allowance...and so...the breaks. Is it really so hard, though...to read?

It is far easier to read on the blog...and...it is centered.
