Is anyone here following American Idol? James is an Aspie with Tourettets - and I think is an awesome role model for my young aspie. My DS doesn't actually like James as a performer, but we like to watch how he is doing. Last night they did a segment about James' special interest, andif you didn't see it you should, the look of joy on his face was so pure and wonderful! AI did not say "special interest" but if you know anything about AS, it was totally obvious.

His nterest is pro wrestling, and this was great to watch because it was DS' interest for the longest time.

I am following American Idol too! And I so agree with you! I have enjoyed the stories and interviews that they do with him. I look at him and see hope that my kiddo although we are having a tough time now can go on to do wonderful wonderful things, which I know he will. I hope that he really really goes far! :)

I agree. Every aspie should have a good role model. :)

We LOVE American Idol... Unfortunately, we only got to see the last 10 minutes last night. James is one of my favorites this season, though my guy's favorite is Scotty, which I really don't get... He doesn't even like country. *shrug*

It's great to be able to show my son someone who has similar issues.
More important, I think it's a wonderful chance for the rest of the world whose lives aren't immediately affected by these things to get exposure, even if it's limited and indirect.

So many people think it isn't "autism" unless the afflicted is curled in a corner rocking and screaming or slack-faced and oblivious to all around them.

Burntoutmom - Please go online and see if you can find the wrestling segment from last night. It was so cute to see all of the other contestants talking about James' constant wrestling watching (making it obvious that wrestling is his special interest)and then when AI surprised him with something good (I won't spoil it for you) it was PRICELESS. The joy that was shown on his face was like nothing you ever see on TV, it was beautiful!

*forehead slap* I remember hearing about the special guests. I just didn't know that was his special interest. I was like, why would they be on American Idol???

LOL.. I'll have to go find it.

Maybe I should change my name to SuperDenseMom.. lol

Awwww.... James looked so shocked and excited. That was so great of them to do...

I'm glad I saw this thread and checked it out. My son, who is not into wrestling really, thought it was really great too.

And I know I used plurals... I thought there was more than one... my oops...
