Does your child get them? My boy just had one, I'm sitting him watching while he sleeps now. He's had them before..scary but at least we know what were dealing with now. The worst part for me is waiting for him to draw breath again while his body goes grey, and his lips and ears blue. Once he draws breath again I can too, I don't care if he's still shaking and his eyes are still rolled back, I know he's going to be OK then.

Thank you for the hug Solvejg :)
I was anticipating it this time, and we didn't panic..until I couldn't find the phone which I wanted in my hand ready just in case, so then I did a headless blithering chook act and ran around the house shouting to no one and hyperventilating :o
Its just him and me here now, I'm lying next to him listening to his breathing and sending cooling thought rays to his central nervous system

They used to always freak me out. The first ones were the worst as a newborn. After that, i kind of got used to them.

Actually it has only been since he hasn't had one for a long time that he started talking...... :?:

I hope you are feeling ok now. Ha ha, i am trying to picture you do the crazy chook run. ha ha.

I worked in the medical field for many years and my X husbands niece also had frequent Febrile Seizures. They are usually not dangerous but if he is turning blue and having them a lot that may be concerning....brain damage occurs when the brain is deprived of O2 as Im sure you know. The best way to avoid is try to keep his fevers down, dose him with tylenol and motrin (Ibuprofen) alternately every two hours.....tylenol then in two hours motrin, then two hours tylenol.....this way he is getting the four hours between each. Also keep him as cool as possible. Some kids can have these seizures even with very low temps. Have you told the doctor that he turns blue? I would certainly do that.

Hi we just got back from the hospital we took him because he had two seizures today, but more because his temperature was staying elevated. He wont take liquid medicine anymore, I used to give him both liquid Paracetamol and Ibuprofen alternating like you said, but now we can't although its no trouble getting him to drink water a lot while sick which is great, but hes had no medicine today. The way its been explained to us is that lowering his temp through these medicines doesn't have an effect on the likelyhood of a seizure happening, but will make him more comfortable..juries out on that one in my mind, but in either case its a good idea to give him the medicine.
So they gave us Paracetamol suppositories and I have given him two so thats good.
He went blue around the lips with the first one today, and fairly grey but it wasn't long I think only about 3-4 minutes and he was taking little gasps and getting air in..thats something the Drs said is that they will breathe but its not obvious. We've called the Ambulance the first three times it happened, and they've been really good and turned up really fast and taken him to Hospital, but now we know about these seizures so I didn't today.

I hope he is all better soon. My daughter has been sick too but she has never had a febrile seizure she just has those absence seizures where she stops and stares at the ceiling or something for about a minute or less....anyway she is smelling the cats feet for some reason and says "smell dirt" . Sleep well!
