Our aspie has such a bad period these days, that at the end, after many sleeples nights, fights and destructions here and there we decided to try with risset (risperidon) 2 mg at night.this is the firs night he went to bed with no problem, its 10.30 p.m. in "our part of the world" and my husband and me feel kind of "giving up", a bit guilty...for giving him medication.
maybe someone is reading this right now and had experience with that kind of medication? We are realy exhausted, sad and tired, and so is he.

love,mamamoo

I've never had to take something like Risperidon, but I imagine your child is as relieved as you are that the agitations aren't happening.

Recently I started taking prescriptions for ADD and depression, and the results have been wonderful. I wish my parents had had the courage to get me "medicated" when I was a child; I would have been much happier.

Don't beat yourself up. There are clearly cases, as John Oldman just stated, where medication can really improve a situation. I don't think it's any better (or worse) to be totally anti-medication-no-matter-what than it is to medicate as a knee jerk reaction to every problem. Each situation needs to be weighed and measured as it sounds you have done.

i agree to the above posters.
even though i dont like to medicate if it isn't needed; you have sketched a situation in which medication truly helped where other attempts failed.

dont feel bad if you needed to medicate, if this specific drug lets your son sleep at night and control his tantrums, see it as some kind of aspirine against a headace.

I give my son medication, it was a very hard choice to make and I still always feel a little guilty every time I give them to him. But bottom line he needs to otherwise he cannot fully function and to see him so low is heartbreaking.
