is this always a sign of autism or asperger?? This would basically be the only symptom she has. She is affective, makes eye contact with people, although she is shy with strangers. She talks (still a little baby talk) but she gets the message accross. The only thing would be the flapping when she wants something, when she gets exited, or when she gets angry...does this mean she is autistic?? She is not dead set on routines, in fact she doesn't have one set routine, every day tends to be different, somewhat, and she is ok with it...Please help, I am just worried sick with this....
For autism, the main thing you need to be looking for are communication and social deficits. That's what's essentially at the core of ASD's.
You've probably heard about hand flapping, toe walking, etc and how these can be signs of autism. If that's all she is doing, I would not be concerned.
My son has an autism diagnosis and does not do any of those types of stereotypical behaviors.
