Hi
My son whom has been on medication for yrs as he had such high anxiety and aggression has just started to display walking on tippy toe around the house, flapping his hands, and a tic with his eyes. He has become quite aggressive and all he wants to do is keep buying things, nothing is making him happy.

He is number 7 child and the last 2 have autism. I am thinking that maybe some of the others may have had it also and my husband.

I am desperate I have no help and am going mad.
Please help. Also I have to home school

The new tics can be from medication depending on what he is on....the aggression could be his age or the medication. Its hard to tell. Tip toe walking may be tendonitis. Its common in certain diseases. I have a disease (one of many) called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type I (which involves skin, easy bruising, slow healing and odd stretch marks even without being pregnant which would be impossible for him anyway....also hypermobility) or type III better known Hypermobility syndrome. Is he flexible or double jointed?....it is very common in Autistic people for some reason. If I could walk on my tip toes I would to release to tension in my heals. I cant walk on my toes due to nerve damage. He could develop tendonitis from a lot of different reasons through....if he holds his feet in a certain way when he sits, ect.

I agree with the above poster, more info would help like what type of medication and also my question about him being hypermobile or "double jointed".....is he a pretzel? LOL....its what we call me and my kids. Because of my other diseases I cant do things like put my feet up around my head.

Here is an article about hypermobility syndrome http://www.reumatologia-dr-bravo.cl/whe ... uspect.htm

This is also a good little blog about Aspergers and Autism with chronic diseases like Ehlers-Danlos and all that can come along with that. I have met a lot of people with Autistic children or who are autistic themselves, like me, and also those that are autistic and have autistic children, like me. There are so many that have EDS or have been labeled with Hypermobility syndrome. http://gimpyzebra.wordpress.com/category/autism/

You can't suddenly become autistic as a teen.

From your short description, your son sounds very anxious to me.

I would agree with lilomeme - if he's on medication, I would check with your doctor and look up the side effects of the meds to see if that is a possible cause of the increased stimming and aggressive behavior. Stimming (self-stimulation like hand-flapping) is usually a self-calming behavior; the general feeling on these boards is that it serves a function for people on the spectrum and to leave it alone unless it involves self-harm or destructive behavior (and usually in those cases, the recommendation is to redirect to a less destructive stim.)

Otherwise, is there anything else going on in particular that could be causing anxiety? 13 is a tough age, it's possible that it's about puberty - but if there is any upset in schedule or major change in his life, you could be seeing his way of managing it.

At the stickies at the top of this board, there are some posts compiled into an "index." There is information there on aggressive behavior.

I think in this case the question may be about an increase in the outward autistic behaviors, but it would be good for the OP to clarify.
