He is diagnosed ADHD and has been c/o "thinking too much" with trouble concentrating on reading with mom as well as some impulse control problems. We've heard some positives about low doses of this drug but still very reluctant to start him on any psychiatric medication. Any feedback from any parents who have tried Abilfiy with their child? Thanks- Paul

We started our son on Abilify when he was eight. He remained on it until he was 11.5.

I wish that we had explored every single option to a much greater degree than we had. In the beginning, it seemed to help. However he gained about 80 lbs on it and I don't think it helped some of the issues that well. While on Abilify, he continued to have violent meltdowns, which was the primary purpose for using the med.

For ADHD issues, I would make sure I had tried everything including making drastic changes to school environment before I would use this med.

We now homeschool and our son has been off all meds for over a year. He's not perfect, and still has occasional meltdowns BUT he had them medicated too.
