Well I took my son to the Museum of Natural History over the weekend. He loves sparkly things, especially his fake gemstones that the Easter Bunny put in his Easter basket this year. So, we specifically went to the Meteorite and Gemstone/Mineral area and my DS~5 was exuberant! He was running all over the place exclaiming "Look at this! Mommy come here! Look at this!! MOMMYYYYYYY!!" I was excited to be back at this section again too. I never really got a chance as a kid to spend enough time there, and I was thrilled that my son could share in this area of interest. Afterwards I went online and bought some books on the subject matter as well as some rocks that I used to have (but lost) as a kid (pyrite, obsidian, etc.) and plan to start a nice collection of my own. I hope to return to the museum many more times so I can continue to immerse myself (and him) in the rock world.
I am also happy that my son has taken a liking to a book that I used to love when I was a kid. I found and bought a copy of it online and read some of it with him. It is called Fishes Dangerous To Man, and now he is a big fan of the hammerhead shark! My favorite was the lion fish, but I am glad my interests have infected him. He now wants a shark backpack to replace his firetruck backpack!
These are the times when being a parent feels really amazing.
