DS is currently at a school for kids with AS, but the director has the belief (and has been known to say flat-out), "Our kids don't have academic issues, just behavioral and social ones."
Not to hijack (I don't have any advice on the topic b/c although I have a nephew with tracking problems they aren't tackling reading in earnest yet) but how can this person claim that no autistic kids in his school have any academic issues and that they are all behavioral/social? There are too many things that overlap into academics and even gifted autistic kids are likely to have something academic-related impacted, if even slightly, if you are watchful for it.
