DS5 had his second student piano recital this past weekend. My husband and I were nervous nellies, wondering whether or not he'd be able to pull it off without having the "angries" like he did the last time (at his first student recital). In fact, he was worried that the other kids would laugh at him again, but we reassured him that would not happen if he didn't get the angries, plus he had a lot of family and friends coming who loved him who would support him. So, DS5 was also very nervous, his piano teacher held him to comfort him and noticed that his heartbeat was racing. She did a really great job at calming him down. He managed to play his songs, stumbling a little on the first two, but doing the last two very well, and he even BOWED when he was done! (For some reason, he was really opposed to bowing, but he did!) Everyone applauded and we all showered him with compliments. He didn't express anything about it, but was more interested in seeing his former classmate/friend who attended. I think he was pleased with himself even if he didn't show it. The last time he did his little performance it was very challenging, but he had a "breakthrough" in his playing after he accomplished it. It was tempting to give up, but sticking with it really paid off. I know he has a lot of potential (I don't believe he will be a piano virtuoso but I am just happy he will learn music) and want him to keep at it, as it can be a great confidence booster. Anyway, I'm a proud mama!

That's great. Just give him as much support that he needs if he continues to study music, something I never really had when I started studying piano at age 9. Dad was always extremely critical of me for wanting to study music, let alone going to college. I think he might of been jealous, since he wanted to be a school teacher, but never had the chance to go to school, due to having to work to help his mom put food on the table (since his dad left him, as well as his brothers and sisters without any kind of support, when he divorced his mom, and was humping another woman on the sly.)
