I am so pleased to find this group and read that other mums are struggling too I have an 8 to boy Brett who was diagnosed at age 6 with ASD the violence and rigid control has always been something that was just normal I suppose untill I realised this little boy is nearly as big as me and as strong ,when my 3yo was born the aggression stepped to a whole new level of vindictive spitefull cruel behaviour, I believed at the time it was a jeleousy thing untill it kept escelating to hitting my self ,3 yo,kids at school best friends and family that are very important to him he threatens to hurt and do horrible thongs to him self and others ,he just can't control the impulse and has no empathy or ability to stop him self when in the frame of mind
,Brett has tried 3 different medicines all unsuccessful hhe is currently UN medicated and is a risk to him self and others so my question is has any one had any luck with a particular medicine or therapy or anything
Thnkyou for reading along
Things always get better

Try reading "The Explosive Child" by Ross Greene and watching the videos on his website: http://www.livesinthebalance.org/walking-tour-parents

It has a method for identifying and solving each specific problem that is causing the behavior.

Hi Hannah,

My daughter went through an aggressive patch around 5-6 throwing tables and chairs at school, hitting. kicking etc...

The school psychologist recommended to the headmaster we medicate her (we found the advice a little strange given psychologists aren't qualified to give advice on prescription drugs) so we had no choice if we wanted her to remain in mainstream schooling.

After a few weeks on Ritalin/Lovan she mellowed out. She's ten now and apart from the occasional meltdown she's doing ok at school/home. I've kept her dosage the same throughout and intend to wean her off the drugs as she gets older and better able to handle her behavior.
