I haven't read this, though came across a publisher's notice of it today. It's a new book which explains Aspergers kids in a non-stigmatising way for NT kids. If you have read it (it's very new) perhaps you could comment on your impressions?

Here is the paragraph from a magazine I was reading that attracted my attention:

"A brand new children's picture book that simply explains why Isaac is different from his brother and sister and other school friends. It describes his autistic symptoms as his own "superpowers" and what they make him feel like. The book will help family and friends begin to appreciate the challenges and strengths of children with autism and there is even a list of links at the back of the book to help you find out more about Asperger's. A very useful and well-presented resource tool".

As it's hard to find non-stigmatising material, I hope this lives up to my hopes. There is an urgent need for books that encourage inclusion at this level. Children absorb prejudice by age 3, developmental psychologists have found, so picture books like this may be the key to unpeeling the childhood onion of learned stigma and hopefully that might lessen the bullying that ASD kids get at school. I hope....

I feel these sorts of books are needed.

I feel more people, both in and out of the Spectrum, should produce anecdotal and fictional accounts of people on the Spectrum.

They put a seed in a reader's mind. Even if the reader had a negative view of autism, and still does after reading one these books, it is quite possible that these books will provide a way for this reader to begin to form a more objective, and true, view of people on the Spectrum.

Another book you might want to check out is All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome. It explains AS traits in a positive sense while depicting cats showing each trait.
