For those of you who have been through it, what should I expect?

He’s getting it done at a really good hospital, so I’m not that worried about the procedure itself, but I’m worried about the pain during his recovery and some family stress. Will they give a high enough dose of pain medication to keep him relatively comfortable?

My family are Jehovah’s Witnesses, and my mom won’t be happy when I sign the consent form for a blood transfusion, and she’ll be especially unhappy if he receives one. She’s the only person I’ve got who can come with me to the hospital.

I’m probably worrying unnecessarily about it.

I don't think you should worry. I would think the transfusion form is just a formality. I can't see why a person would need a transfusion for a tonsillectomy. I'm sure everything will go perfectly well!

I think it’s just an emotionally charged topic for me. Technically, I should be disfellowshipped (shunned) just for signing that paper, but I don’t think my mom will tell the ignorant leaders in the church, so I should be okay. She still won’t be happy about it, though.

It is extremely unlikely that he’ll actually need one, but they think that agreeing to one is just as bad.

Im an aspie and had my tonsils taken out at like 8. No bigger a deal than it was for any other kid my age.

you're an autism spec person yourself, and you must have had your tonsils out too.

It ended being a huge deal for him the day after because of complications (he was coughing up blood), but we got through it and all is well.
