My son, home from college is driving us crazy. He sometimes stays up all night. He is on the computer all day and night.
He is in the process of transferring to another school. He is so rude and surly that it irritates us to no end. He is extremely secretive. So he will not talk about his life. I am afraid that this will come to a head with bad results. I would like for him the have a future. We try to stay away from our own house.

His plans:
Finish is college apps.
Get a job.

He seems to be in no hurry to do that.

I can relate to that. How old is he?

He is 20.

sounds quite tense. is he talking to you at all ?....maybe he just doesn't want to play 20 questions. ...?

Seems like he is just use to the independence? I mean living on your own then coming back home has to be hard. Not sure what to say really. Just do your best... Talk to him if he's bugging you that badly and tell him to shape up or ship out. But seriously it's your house you set the rules if he cant abide by that then well... About the not being in a hurry, maybe he's not, are you worried about that cause it puts a financial burden on you or something else? When he goes to college does he live in the dorm? Does he have a job as well? Not sure how to answer cause don't know what his dependence/independence level is. But, basically just sounds like some time for some tough love.

I have the same situation at my house except it's my older brother. All he does is stay at home all day, not even talking to his friends when they came over once. He's been in college for 5 years but he never did his senior project so he's not graduated yet. Usually during dinner he comes in the middle and argues with my dad about tiny subjects (my dad is really arrogant btw). I want to just yell at him to get a job but it's not in my place to do so, and my parents are extremely passive (except to me, which drives me crazy).
