As some of you no doubt know, Valentine's Day can be a little hard for an AS like me. The holiday seems to be for people with a significant other more than anything else, a day where we here in America are flooded with images of couples in love.

They hug, kiss...

They're there for each other.

But some of us don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend. What's worse is that no one knows how to handle us, rejecting us completely. The result is that when we see those images, we are reminded of how alone we are in this world, not being able to get the kind of relationships that we need. The result is, sometimes, we can get a little lonely.

So I was wondering if you do anything on Valentine's Day for your AS child? If so, what?

And for those of you who don't, I did want to encourage you to do so. Nothing intrusive necessarily, but something special, just to let them know that you love them and you're there for them.

I never thought of that. I wonder, now, about my son's thought about that. I think I'll give him lots of special extras to show he's loved. Thanks for your post. It made me think.

And-- it's Oregon's birthday on Valentine's Day!

Yeah, I wish my mom was more that way than, "Isn't it about time you had a girlfriend?"

But how would you have a girlfriend if they tend to just shun you and you end up feeling awkward?

And do you really need to have one?

If your feel lonely when you are by yourself, you must be very bad company indeed. A person who provides good company would be able to provide that same comfort to himself.

Food for thought.

Very true.

Just so that you know, I am okay being by myself NOW, but haven't always been that way.

But that's really another thread for another day.

I used to hate Valentine's Day, but now it's an excuse to love my kitty more, and to buy myself delicious chocolate! Like that song says, "If you can't be with the one you love, then love the one you're with. In this case, myself, and my cat!

I love buying chocolate. I suppose if an aspie had a special interest or an obsession with chocolate, then they would technically be doing something with their AS...lol I've always wanted to try Mazatlan chocolate, the kind that originates in Mexico that has more spice (like cinnamon) than sugar. Toblerone is also good, plus hot chocolate!

I kind of wish there was a hug or a kiss emoticon

:heart: :heart::heart::heart:

That will have to do in the place of chocolates.
