The only way we can keep sane is to make jokes. Our son has started (obsessively, more specifically) to demand a drink six to ten times before actually falling asleep. And this is one hour AFTER taking clonidene. I jokingly refer to him as the 'drunk old woman at bar closing time'. "I wannnnnnnna dreeeeeeenk!" And he will not rest, I mean literally, until he gets those six to ten drinks. I am certain he isn't even thirsty but will take no other answer but a drink. Any suggestions?

Either stop giving him Clonidine or keep giving him water, but to deny him water when you give him medicine that gives a dry mouth would be exceptionally cruel.

I understand the clonidine has it's side effects, but he has been taking it since November and this demanding of a drink has only started a couple-few weeks ago. So I am assuming it has some behaviour based relativity. I think he gets sheer amusement and gratification at being so demanding and getting a rise out of us, which is hard not to do when it is so unrelenting.

My kids go to sleep with GIANT sports bottles by their bed. And, amazingly enough, rarely have to get up in the middle of the night for potty. My son actually drinks the whole thing down most nights.

Just FYI, I've found that requesting drinks or food can sometimes be a delaying tactic. So, we've taken the possible excuse away: "you've got plenty of water right here in your bottle. now go to sleep. good night." (To deal with the food question, we have a "last call for food" about a half hour before bed. If they claim hunger at bedtime, we tell them sorry, we had last call, and they were supposed to fill up then).

Give him a gigantic bottle of water so he doesn't need to ask for a bunch of cups. Honestly, it's not right to deny a kid water when he's obviously thirsty. If he weren't thirsty, he wouldn't be able to drink the water. And its usually good to drink tons of water even when you're not thirsty.

don't know if it would help, but if it's a pill (there's usually different ways of delivering it), have them drink a little before swallowing the pill.

My son is the same. I get the 'I need a drink' or 'I'm hungry'. He drinks water straight from the tap in the bathroom and I will give him something because he probably IS hungry.

Buy one of those big things of water with the pull out spout, put it next to his bed with a cup and let him get his own drink as many times as he needs
