I met my sons' new Special Ed teacher and she is brilliant!!

She worked with my sons last year - she did fill in work when last year's Special Ed teacher was sick.

So she knows the boys and they love her. I haven't met her before but heard them talk about her last year and how much they loved her.

It is such a relief! She's only 2 days per week, but the boys can see teacher aides on other days.

I still have the formal complaint against the other Special Ed teacher being investigated. The outcome I want is for her to have further training in Asperger's. (I would love her to be sacked, but that isn't going to happen).

Smelena, a woman after my own heart!! ! Ditto, we have found a BRILLIANT SENCO as well!! Hurray. Just taken the headteacher to court. Nasty piece of work who made my childrens lives hell. The damage primary school did was HORRIFIC but with the brilliance of the secondary school the damage is being repaired.

It makes EVERYTHING soooooooo much easier when you have someone you can trust! Well done and enjoy, things won't be half as tricky now!

I'm in a position where I could sue the school. They know that and are terrified .... everyone is all tippy-toe around me.

I've decided not to sue the school because it is a waste of energy. However I am going to pursue my complaint agains the particular teacher because she failed in her duty of care and made my sons' lives miserable. I cannot just leave it .... what if another family has the same difficulties with her but doesn't have the same confidence to complain?

Happy to hear that :D
Having improved the quality of life for your children you now have an opportunity to do it for all children.(or at least get the ball rolling a little)
If it were me,(which it isn't thankfully,my daughters teachers have all been fabulous) I would probably get some lawyer to take it pro-bono strictly for the publicity and media attention alone.
Maybe it would shed light on how teachers should have mandatory training. Not just Special Ed teachers. Even if its just a 3 hour block I think EVERY teacher should be made aware of what AS/Autism really is and recieve some training.
There's other families whose children are going to other schools who will never knowwhat your children went thru (and your family as a whole)
The complaint will be kept "Hush-hush" so as not to ruin her "career"
I'd cause as BIG as stir as possible, get loads of media attention and then drop the case. (But I like to "be the Big Spoon in the pot of s#%" sometimes. If its for the right reasons I almost enjoy "causing a scene.") I'm Bad like that! :D
They'll proably quit tippy-toeing once they find out you haven't retained legal counsel.
And in case your wondering "No, I'm not affilated w/ any lawyers and have never sued anyone in my life!" :)
I'v seen your youtube videos...You have an "Advocates Heart &Soul".......maybe this is your chance to advocate on a larger scale. Your videos ROCK btw :D
Just "drop the case" once you get your message out. It is Autism Awareness Month...help them be more "aware"

I need to get through the IEP meeting on Tuesday before I decide what to do. Currently I have chronic jaw pain from stress.

My dentist has prescribed me a mouthguard to wear at night because I'm grinding my teeth away.

Then I'm supposed to have a meeting with the Principal and idiot Special Ed teacher to 'resolve' the issues.

I do need to advocate for the greater good. On the other hand I need to look after myself so I can look after my family.

Reika, you've given me food for thought. I'll wait and see though.

That's great, Smelena, so glad to hear that after all that you've gone through with the nasty piece of work that was your other SE teacher. And your boys will be so much better for it.

A knowledgeable, competent and caring SE teacher will do absolute wonders for AS children. But a bad one can cause horrendous damage in such a short time. I've had to deal with a whole range of SE teachers with my son. Most have been okay, but he's had some real doozies I've had to go round after round with, with the help of my mother who is, fortunately, a retired teacher who knows how to go about such things. He's also been lucky enough to have some great ones like the new teacher you're describing. Just stay vigilant the way you have been, and continue to be a strong advocate for the children. Once they knew I wasn't going to back down and that, in many cases, I actually knew more than the teachers and admins about my son's condition and what was best for him, they started to work with me.
