Hi there,

I'm writing an article about AS and I would like to find some parents of Aspies to do some brief interviews with. I can do it via e-mail or phone, whatever is easier. It shouldn't take more than 15 minutes of your time.

If you are interested in being interviewed, please e-mail me at weirdfishes80 [at] gmail [dot] com

So far, the focus of my article is going to be on the frequent misdiagnosis or lack of diagnosis of Asperger's and the lack of understanding by the general public about AS. If you have any experience, in particular, in those areas that would be very helpful.

Thanks!

Me mum's an NT; I'll ask her if she would want to.

She is one of the best NT mom's an aspie could have!

I'm happy to be interviewed, I'll send an email.

You may find that you get more info from my blog though.

I might be a good candidate for your research. My son was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD at an early age (he was in second grade) but I did not hear about asperger's until about 2 years ago ( he is now 24) when he was having problems and a therapist suggested that he may be an aspie. I found this site and have been reading some of the discussions. I see so much of my son in some of the post that I am certain he is on the Spectrum.

To Gavin, I looked at your blog and I too took a pill to see what my child might be feeling from the meds.. It gave me a bad stomach ache. it did not seem to help me concentrate any better are feel more relaxed, but I figured since I did not have ADHD I would not feel the benefit. I asked my son if the medicine made his stomach hurt and he said no. I continued to give him the meds. It was only later that I realized he could not really express how the meds made him feel. These days stomach problems are a main complaint. I wish that I would have had the tools to make a better decision about the meds, he might be feeling better now if I had.

Different medications affect different people in quite different ways.
The best research on a target other than the one being medicated is a parent or sibling with similar genes. Unless the sibling is a full-grown adult, parents are the place to test.

There's no doubt in my mind that ritalin can create stomache discomfort and nausea. Either my dose wasn't strong enough or my family's genes are different enough that I didn't experience an actual "ache".
