I just got off the phone to one of my friends. This is a friend who doesnt think aspergers is a real diagnoses. Hmmmmm
She told me that another friend of hers has just had all her kids assessed for various things. One of the kids got an autism dx, my friend went on to say she can't stand having this boy in her house cause he touchs every thing (hmmmmm so does my J) and apparently this young boy flaps his hand like a "spastic"! !! !! !! I said J hand flaps when he is really excited or very upset, she completely ignored it and kept talking. I am p!$$@d off, how dare she be so judgmental.
Thank goodness she lives in another state and I don't have to see her very often.

Yep, some people do say the stupidest things! By the way I love your use of the  - I saw a post today with another one of a red "smiley" face banging their head against a wall. I bet you'd love to use that one too!!

Is she a Scientologist by any chance? They seem to think that psychiatrists are evil and leukemia is psychosomatic.

There are judgmental people everywhere...

If you want to see the red face it is at the bottom of the first post on this thread. I'm sure it will make you feel better. Was my best laugh of the day!

My boys touch everything. My 9 year old flaps when he's excited. My 8 year old spins a lot.

Your friend sounds like she should be put on the ex-friend list.

You don't need that aggravation in your life.

I've had to dump some friends over the years because they don't understand my boys.

I've also been dumped by some 'friends' who couldn't handle my sons.

That's ok. The friends I have left are wonderful.

There's a Dr Seus quote I saw in someone's signature: 'Those who care don't matter, and those matter don't care'.

Why do you have to see her at all? Couldn't you just stop all contact with her?

I'm a big believer in pruning deadwood in the spring. Even with relationships.

Sometimes ESPECIALLY with relationships.

flapping hands and spinning sounds would be a god send... my 12 yr old son has to make farting noises all the time --- and thoughts on how to change that one?

so far have had no problems with my friends or family where my son and husband (both are AS) are concerned... they are both accepted for themselves... it is my sons school mates that do not accept him... the biggest on that got me is his so called best friend - went to a carnival in town last weekend and he happened to be there... my girls and myself were on the ferris wheel while my husband and son waited for us... my son saw his friend and went over --- the kid acted like he was a leper... and then called the next day wanting to come over and play.

ddp79- as far as the farting noise goes, the only way to eliminate it is to give negative consequences/ignore it.
as far as the "friend" goes, well, he's probably, unfortunately, embarassed to be seen with your son.fair weather friend. i've had them myself.....

Sad story. SHE'S NO FRIEND. Drop her like a hot cake. You know what...... I've had too many experiences like that lately. It makes me REALLY MAD!
