Most of the AS children I have met are not extremely expressive when they talk. My son is the most expressive child I have ever met, ever. When he tells a story, he gets really into it and now practically acts. Are there other AS children that do that? just curious.

I COULD be sometimes. Sometimes I still can be. I have ACTUALLY tried to illustrate a bad movie/series to someone, and fail in that I sometimes made them sound BETTER than they were.

Aren't AS kids SUPPOSED to be expressive, to a degree, with interests, etc...?

Every time you post, I feel like you are an older version of my son!! !
Yes, my son is a better actor than those he tries to illustrate:)

My husband has hardly any expression at all. I have probably too much. We meet in the middle:)
My husband noticed my son's extremely expressive qualities and asked that question. My husband and I both feel that he (my husband) is on the spectrum. So my husband is a little confused about that quality in my son.

My 9 year old has AS and is expressive, I think this is part of the reason some people don't believe the dx. Also when he is retelling a story he is extremely expressive almost over does it. It can be rather comical sometimes.

Well, maybe (how's that for a wishy-washy answer)! I'm not - really shy. But I might be expressive about what I know (science, etc). With certainty, there are expressive Aspies, even here on WP. Is Nate theatrical? If so, he might puruse this talent. I believe there are just a few professional actors, comedians, with Aspergers, diagnosed. Maybe he's just passionate about story telling.

True that Auties/Aspies are often great mimics - this can be quite amusing. I'm guilty of this one....heh heh.

btw, just as a general question: I subscribe to the magazine 'Autism Digest,' and I especially think you would love this magazine. You can google this, it's by Future Horizons. Dr. Temple Grandin (HFA - like me) has her own page in each issue, plus other interesting elements. I thought about you when I recently received my last issue.....you could check? Also (gloating here.....), the editor of 'Autism Digest,' Veronica Zysk, who is really nice, actually wrote me an email letter about my YouTube video done by Smelena with my photos, writing exerpts, etc. I thought this was really nice of her - I appreciate. This mag also has GFCF recipes, etc. Just thought I'd mention this for you......

ps: Autism Digest is looking for cover photos, giving their parameters. Is Nate photogenic? Veronica Zysk knows of WrongPlanet.

Yes, Nate is pretty photogenic when he doesn't overdue the cheesy grin. He definitely is theatrical. When he is retelling a story, he is overly expressive. The last few weeks he is really becoming expressive and great at mimicking. If he sees something on tv, he will recite and act what he just saw with such enthusiasm. He can be so serious at times, too. He is very determined when he does it. Other times, it's just when he is retelling the story. He has become such a good storyteller but his stories go on and on and on and he sometimes loops where he will tell the same story over and over again. It is still interesting because the way he tells it is very expressive.

Thanks so much for that magazine information. I should subscribe to it. I will look up all the other information you gave me as well.

The last issue had an article about mimicry....apparently one mother wrote that her Autistic little girl, very bright, gave an uncanny Cruella Deville! Oh no....I guess she could precisely mimic, at times (like to one in pubic) say, "Idiot." But with Cruella Devilla accent and intonation. Scary!

Have you read/heard Quatermass' Hannibal Lecter? "Hello Clarise." Spooky. He does it with emphasis though, lots of Ss.

It looks like a lot of the stranger parts of me are simply related to AS. I match a lot of AS criteria and think I have it. I am SO different that I shouldn't find anyone that matches in very many ways, outside of those that seem normal of course, but some here match in ways I would never have guessed. I guess your son is like that.

With ME, in such a case, I try to pull out the part, of what I am talking about, that I am upset with, and sometimes cover the better parts to be unbiased, and I get carried away. Sometimes the worst movie can sound good when shortened to say 5 minutes.
