Can anyone tell me if they had success/or not with ABA or behavioral shaping? I'd appreciate it.

thanks

Early Intervention is behavior modification. ABA maybe more specific, but basically any program aimed at helping an autistic child integrate better is behavior modification. I think if it's gentle and parents are very involved, it can be a positive experience. I think what is important is distinguishing between helping a child live and thrive in a neurotypical world and forcing them to suppress everything, including who they are. It's vital to ensure the line is not crossed.

Plus you have to consider what is realistic given the child's level of functioning and the family finances. I don't think anyone should have to remortgage their house to get expensive treatment that might or might not work for their child.

Back before Asperger's became well known, I did many of the things with my oldest son that ABA does. I did not know anything about it, just that he responded better when I did certain things with him like have him look me in the face, or somewhere about there, when speaking with me.

From what I can tell, you can do a lot of ABA things at home. If you decide to, just see how your child reacts.
