My 3 year old is getting a heavy dose of PECs from our speech therapist as well. I work at an elementary school (ESL teacher) and they use it there a lot. Its a proven method that appeals to visual learners. I think of it as a visual reminder that my kid needs to talk. Like others have said, I don't think of it as something permanent but it really has helped my kid say "I want x" instead of simply taking my hand and trying to force me to get him something.

What I like it for best is using the little cards to make a schedule of what we're going to do that day. My kid gets really upset when you do anything out of the routine. If I give him advance warning by showing the little pictures in order of what we're going to be doing and talking about it, he isn't taken by surprise.
