That's an interesting blog, considering I'm just going through the process of writing a meltdown intervention plan with my AS son's teachers. Yeah, I agree that seclusion is not the answer. I think you have to start with seeing if there are ways to communicate and solve the problem, and if these don't appear to work, then divert the child into an activity that will calm them. I think some teachers struggle (and I can see why) with letting them do activities that would normally be deemed "rewards", but let's face it, we're trying to calm a neurological issue, not a behavioural one.
