why people who don't believe in God or pray, etc. feel ...
just didn't want this to get lost in that long, thread about the mom poem.....
I am always curious why people who don't believe in God or pray, etc. feel the need to ridicule those that do, get so offended that we hold those beliefs and talk, with authority, about God when they don't even believe in God? Why does it threaten you that I pray, that it helps me in my life, why must you tell me I am wrong? You said in some post that when I pray it is not God I am praying to...How the heck do you know? I know...because you can't see it, there's no evidence. Well I don't happen to believe that.
Why can't you just let me have my belief and I let you have yours. I am not one of those Christians who condemn those who aren't so why must you condemn me for believing? Why is it so scary to you that I or anyone thinks there is a God? and why do you care? You must be a Christopher Hitchens fan huh?
Live and let live
Sorry, but I cannot agree with you here. It is healthy to have one's beliefs questioned. I look forward to the opportunity. If there is no thought to my faith, then what's the point? We are intelligent beings (even those who are not as bright as others are still much more intelligent than many other species on the planet).
Also, I didn't see how he appeared threatened. I think he may, as many do, feel that religion is used as a crutch too often.
Lastly, the idea that you want to live and let live is called into question since you posted this thread. You could have just as easily sent him a PM. There is no reason to get so threatened by his comments to call him out.
Ridiculing other members is not permitted here. Neither is calling out others by name. Both should be reported to a moderator.

I didn't see anything that I personally would call ridicule. It just had the appearance of small-mindedness. Unfortunately there is a lot of that here for one reason of another which seems very strange to me as those of us here are all supposed to have such 'big' minds.

Why can't people who believe in God allow gays and lesbians to have a life of love and fufillment together?
I've often wondered why those who believe in any supernatural being or phenomenon seem to act in a condescending (at least) or hostile manner whenever they encounter someone else who does not believe as they do.
Is it so awful that I don't follow your religion?
Does it really make someone a bad person for believing in a physical universe without also believing that there is a meta-physical reason for it being here?
Why are my requests for repeatably verifiable evidence for what you believe in met with both ridicule and hyperbole?
When I say "Evidence, Please?" it does not mean that I'm calling you out as a liar - it only means that I'm requesting repeatably verifiable proof of the claims you make, that's all.

Some people who are Athiest do it out of their own belief (after all, you'd have to prove His existence one way or another...
.
As I understand it, some do it out of a belief that science can or should explain everything, and that anyone who believes in a non-scientific basis of any phenomenon is expressing superstition.
Some people do it as part of the basic belief in classical Marxism/Communism/Socialism viewpoint that Religion is an opponent of the masses, therefore, it's an opponent to a more perfect society.
And some people do it because they believe that such evil they see in the world around them proves that no true God could allow these things to happen.
there's probably other reasons as well, but I'm still on the fence...![]()
Correction:
Many people also believe that the universe is entirely physical, and requires no meta-physical cause to exist.
I mean, Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too? (Douglas Adams quote)

Yoshi I think you're confusing people who believe in churches (organized religion) (as bad as organized politics) with people who belief in a higher power.
The gay thing is purely political and has nothing whasoever to do with religion but everything to with churches and governments.

The funny thing is that people use god to describe/explain what Atheists MUST acknowledge, etc... Atheists don't even ATTEMPT to describe it. The idea of a random mutation, etc... doesn't explain it. Now I don't believe in God, but here is an example of what I might say that they will NOT acknowlege.
THEY say that EVENTUALLY by RANDOM chance, there will be a mutation, and VIOLA! If it takes a million years, they figure that it will take a million years.
I say WRONG! If it takes a million years, it could take TRILLIONS of years! WHY? Because we are NOT talking about ONE "freak of nature". We are generally talking about TWO! And they can't simply be SIMILAR! They can't even be IDENTICAL! They have to be similar in the right way, etc.... A horse and a donkey are SOMEWHAT similar! They can EVEN mate! *****BUT***** their offspring CAN'T! And this is true about MOST insects, MOST reptiles, many microbes, all birds, mammals, etc....
THEN, they try to talk about how the only difference in the sexes is hormones! EVEN if that were true, you would need two creatures that were somewhat similar. The fact is that hormones only trigger underlying processes. You can't run 8088 machine on a 6502 cpu!
Sarcastic, yet told to me by Christians of all ages and denominations,
Also, those who don't believe in the god of the bible, have no morals or ethics, obviously, or they would believe in the god of the bible.
To be treated this way, to be talked down too, and looked at as if I was ret*d, thats right I said it, just because I have not the divine guidance in my heart, to hold me to an understanding that others feel are true.
It is not right to criticize those who get their love through one understanding or another. Believe me though, my soft smiles and hidden rolling of the eyes, came from many people telling me I simply don't understand, when they themselves can only quote scripture and not give any understandings, that are not already available to any kind hearted, honest, love based person of extreme care and a higher sense of well being for those around them
Oh and, first and foremost, judge not, lest ye be judged, why is this such an easy thing for most Bible believers to walk away from.
When it clearly means, we are all right in what we believe, as long as it harms none.
Of course there are ten sides to every side of the story, I just don't think it is fair for any of the sides to say, the other is wrong for being themselves. Or the other is wrong in their morals or ethics. Or the other is wrong for not loving the way one ought to love.
Cause I think everyone, except those who are apathetic, can agree, that either, love truth or proper intentions is all that really matters at the heart of all actions.
Or not, because hell, I could just be full of s**t.
Hear! Hear! :thumleft:
Someone once told me that understanding was not to be given to non-believers. Another told me that proof destroys faith. Yet another told me that if I was meant to know, then I would know already.
These are the exceptions to the general rule that most religionists can only quote their respective scriptures in response to honest inquiry, and that they do so without fully comprehending the answer they give or the question they were asked. Even worse, most of the answers they give have little - if anything - to do with the question that was asked!
