Future of gaming is very promising. Sony has 3-4 patents on a Matrix like gaming device that uses Ultrasounds. Likely it won't be ready for another 15-20 years or so at the earliest. From what I read it will allow gamer to wake up in a virtual world just like the Matrix. Touch, feel, taste, hear, and everything. I just hope the death part doesn't stick like the Matrix. :P

I say in the next 10 years though it goes 2-4 directions. I believe next-generation consoles will feature better graphics, and more of same old same old, but with could gaming concept coming along. The ability of the next generation consoles to simply sit back and just get a new controller every 5 or 10 years is gonna be thrown into the mix. PS Cloud is trademarked by Sony. OnLive, OTOY, Playcast, GaiKai, and many others are appearing. OTOY has been demoed with Xbox 360 controller. OnLive is open to partner with anyone they said. If a working cloud platform exists in the next 10 years or so upgrading hardware will be a thing of the past. It could certainly improve the number of gamers. Unfortunately some aspects of Cloud gaming would be restrictive to more like Console gaming and less likely to support game mods or dedicated servers. Dedicated servers are more possible than game mod support though. It will be tougher for anyone wanting to mod a game.

Voice Recognition will be a part of next generation games. As well as more motion detection. I would hope there will still be a line of games for just the controller as well. I don't like the motion and voice command stuff, but its essential in some ways to move forward.

Oh I forgot to mention the technology related to the series .hack//, it is a pretty cool series (anime and games) that invisions a kind of conects, virtual reality via headset and controler mmorpg. Though hopefully without the possible effects of falling into a coma, and your mind stuck in the game world. The series itself has an interesting comentary on the society and mind of different gamers.

And also possibly the coming along of "augmented reality", this is along the lines cyberspace being placed alongside the real one. Simular to the anime Dennou Coil which used multiple cameras, the use of glasses to see it and other things, though again hopefully without the comas. I know that there already have been tests at types of augmented realities, infact eyetoys are a type of AR.

I see us swimming in MMO's, or other online multiplayer games, which mysteriously lack any single player campaign or--even worse--method to play multiplayer with other people in your living room.

Thanks, Nintendo, for releasing New Super Mario Bros Wii without online play. It took balls to make us feel the magic again.

Gosh I hope not...that would be the worst future imaginable :x

Well, no, worse than that would be if they outlawed physical games, like some crazy Shadowrun world or something @_@

I always feel bad for people who complain about Nintendo games not having online multiplayer. It must suck to not have any friends =/

Well, not sure . . . depends on what level of tech we WILL have in 10-15 years. Sure, a lot is in research, but how much of it will turn up something practical? Neural feedback (feeling/sensing inside the game) could be present, but a very simple levels. Holograms . . . could be, but not very complex and/or very restrictive in what games would be good. I think the WII was a step in the right direction, adding a more physical aspect to gaming. I would like to see the "Power Glove" come back, perhaps adding a bit of something for more "hands on" connection with games (imagine playing Resident Evil where you actually have to push a door open and make sure your gun is ready . . . or perhaps manipulate the door in some way to take out the zombies). Id say higher interactive gaming is on the rise (as far as physical interaction goes), but to what degree . . . Id rather be surprised. :) :D

Game Systems might use different modules so you can upgrade the Processor, Memory, and Video so the programmers are not limited the what the machine comes with. You could Expand the memory on the N64.

* now enter your pin code
* Now enter your 6 digit pin-sec code.
* Now enter your password
* Enter your password verification number.
* We found a mistake in the last stuff you entered. In case you forgot one of those numbers, please answer the security question: How many siblings do you have?
- 3
* Our data tells us your father actually had a child outside marriage, so you were supposed to answer 4. 3 is close enough though.
* We verified your credit card information, select the amount of fun points you want, notice that each fun point requires you to pay 1 globboh dollar per minute.
- 1 fun points.
* Congratulations! the furgox 2 experience begins!

* A black background is shown to your eye-plugged eyes. And now a 3d red brick appears in front of you. It begins rotating until turning yellow.

* Game over.

Congratulations! you just wasted a whole hour of globoh dollars! And you got infected with a new STD in the process.

Well possibilities with gaming-

With 3D coming back with movies and tech getting cheaper the virtual reality (VR) stuff might make a comeback, this time being cheap enough and practical enough to use. I am sure it is already doable but the stigma is there from the last attempt, good marketing and some positive publicity might change this.

High speed net should be a norm, most games would probably have a networked or multiplayer component as standard.

Cloud computing technology is starting to be looked at, it relies on fast internet though. Basically instead of buying a physical copy or downloading a soft copy you only install a small game client. Buying a game then is essentially buying a key to access the game. All processing is handled in a server cloud, your computer only gets the screen images sent to it. This way would obsolete PC hardware as your computer wouldn't process physics, graphics or anything, its all handled on the server cloud. This would also essentially obsolete consoles, PCs would be just as easy to use as a console but have better input (keyboard + mouse) and can do stuff besides games. If this becomes the norm half of what I post below will also probably never mean much.

With the Lucid Hydra graphics can be put up more easily than before. Being able to play games with almost photo-realistic graphics isn't too far fetched in the next 15 years.

I do not think physics cards will specifically become mainstream but rather multi-core processors (similar to how video cards work) will come in. Think a processor with dozens of "cores". Computers would almost be mini-supercomputers.

If quantum computing is realised then this will have an immeasurably huge impact on society. By this I mean think how much computers have changed our lives in the last 25 years- from the introduction of computers into workplaces to a computer reliant society with chips in everything. If quantum computers are realised then we will have a jump like that again. Quantum computers may be really good for graphics processing, like DVD quality or better graphics. That may be longer than 15 years away though.

I think we can all agree that they will eventually add 3-D to gaming much like the movies are doing because what else if there left to do?

Virtual reality will be the norm (think those old VR headsets like in the movie TRON), but without any VR headsets.

All games will control like the Wii. Or there will be an option to atleast PLAY that way if you WANT to.

There will be a PS4 and no further.

Nintendo will become even stronger.

Microsoft will abandon Xbox360 & switch to just PC gaming.

Sega will be REBORN, and will make a home console along with its rival Nintendo. It will be better than Dreamcast!!

Arcades will make a comeback, but with limited space and VR-only games. You'll take your memory cards from home to play.

All of ^^^^ this ^^^^ I hope comes true.

but i'll still have an old Nintendo Entertainment System because i love that most LOL.

Vexcalibur, your post was very funny! Yes, everything will be expensive & all these "free try" online games will require instant credit card approval. 10 minutes later, free trial over am i right? ;)
