My friend gets a lot of his games off of Steam. Me, I don't have a credit card, plus I prefer having a physical copy then relying solely on downloads.

I don't have a credit card either, I pay using PayPal.

I still dont get how Paypal works. Is it like a bank account for internet purchases or something?

You hook it up to a bank account, then you just log in to confirm transactions online. I don't really like it, but it works.

Does anyone have a good idea of what the current technical difficulties at Steam could be about? It's starting to inconvenience me.

Indeed, but there have been malfunctions for a day and a half now. Most noticeable; my Friend List was deleted yesterday.

Must be your regional servers, I just have had some connectivity issues, eg. logging me out mid-game.

Steam has a new UI in beta. There is some discussion going on about that.
To see it yourself go to 'settings' and click on the Beta participation section. (you can always go back to the default by doing the same thing again).

Related news - WrongPlanet group is on Steam.

I started the group a while back and its been steadily growing. I might add officers at some point for perhaps monthly events. (weekly events can get tiresome, especially having to remove all those pop-ups).

Odd; I checked, and I'm not participating in the Beta. Oh, well.

Now that's interesting... I'll have to check out that group later today after I get off work.

I did participate in the beta, it was pretty good. Though the beta period ended not too long ago and returned me to the normal UI.

I guess its per time-zone like they do with selling games early in the US.
I'm in the UK and the beta program only recently started, its still on the beta interface at the moment.

Agreed. When games are on sale for 5 bucks or less, there's so little to lose. That's the price of a rental for crying out loud.

I think to myself "one more day of spaghetti. Oh yeah."

LOL Agreed

anyone know what will happen if it ever goes under? will we get game disks sent to us or do u think they;ll give us a limited amount of time to download or they'll just fold and we;ll be left empty?

if for what ever reason, steam closes its doors, im sure for one, they will let there software work so you can play your games, 2, can always run it in offline mode, just cause a company dies, does not mean its software does. 3, if they made it so you cant, go get a older version of it and run in offline mode.

If Steam goes down, Valve will remove the DRM from their games.
If Steam goes down and Valve doesn't remove the DRM, give it a day or so and download a crack.
