I don't mind Cait Sith either NZ... mind there is that first limit break he has isn't that bad but based on the dice rolls I get, I see your point.
If you keep him set to his level 1 limit break it will fill up faster and you don't have to worry about accidentally killing your party or screwing them over and even then its hard to get those rolls and there's always the one that insta-kills everything. Back when I first played FF7 when I was very young I couldn't beat Carry Armor and his limit actually saved me. You could also just use Cait Sith as a healer/medic-y type character for regular fights and just let the limit gauge make him get turns faster (I think your speed is boosted when you have limit status?).
Not really a character per-say, but in Pokemon I always liked the bug types, especially Venomoth, Butterfree and Beedrill. The type was largely underpowered and bad until Heracross and Scizor were introduced and Scizor really didn't become good competitively until the ADV gen. As it stands now, especially in gen 4 and 5, bugs are a very good offensive type and now have some really hard hitters like Yanmega and Volcarona. Venomoth, a long time favorite, is kind of overshadowed still but has the potential to play in upper tiers thanks to a new move called "quiver dance" that boosts its stats and it has a unique niche in being able to use baton pass (passing status over to another 'mon). Sadly Butterfree and my dear Beedrill are still regarded as garbage, especially the latter, and will remain that way forever due to their horribly low stat allocations. I still try to use Beedrill when I can in the games. I also love grass types and poison types, the latter of which were terribly useless for a long time. Muk and Weezing were SO cool though, I'm happy Weezing became good with the addition of the ability "levitate"(immune to ground moves). My favorite gym leader, Koga, also used poison types, along with his daughter in GSC. Grass types are cool in general and the type has my favorite moves, like leech seed and wood hammer. All of my favorite starters, except for gen 2, are grass types too: bulbasaur(YES YES YES), treeko, turtwig(YES), and snivy (YES YES).
Fav "legendary" is also Articuno, the "defensive/bulky" of the bird trio yet its screwed by its typing ice/flying. I've never been a big fan of legendary pokemon, I think Mewtwo is boring, but I was in love with Articuno ever since I first encountered it in the sea foam islands. Has the most beautiful cry (use to have it as a ringtone) and it is my windows 7 user icon. With that said everytime I talk about pokemon with people they say "Articuno SUCKS!! ! Zapdos is the best bird!!". Maybe, but I still love Articuno, in gradeschool I even wrote a cheesy, self-insert fanfic with Articuno
Here's something NOT Pokemon related: in the playstation roleplaying game "Breath of Fire 3", I used the Nina character because I love magic..the problem is that magic is pretty terrible in BOF3, unlike 2 (my favorite installment) and its much easier to just use fast, physical attackers, like Rei (whom I did use because he was cool). Nina was my "useless" slot just because I loved using spells that were largely redundant and the game really made me suffer for it at times. Momo was a bit better ingame but I liked Nina more.
Also I'm going to go with "wizard" in D&D 3.5 for two reasons, both vastly different:
1. I think the evocation tree is really awesome and always like to pick a few spells in it just because stuff like fireball is so classic and neat. Evocation, sadly, is the most useless wizard/sorcery school.
2. I like the "cheesy" wizard schools that make the class so hated, in fact I love magic and get very mad if I'm not allowed to play a wizard or sorceress or a warlock or necro. How is this relevant to the topic you say and not just me talking about what I like?
Well, lots of people who play D&D now kind of rightfully hate casters, especially because of how much 3.5 favored them, especially wizards. I never got into the subsequent edition but hear moans and complaints about wizards and sorceress to the point where people don't allow certain spells or even the class to be taken. Melee almost always seems to suffer in some way but I've always loved being a caster and will get nearly temperamental about being forced to be any kind of melee character. The average person tends to prefer wielding a big cool sword and wacking stuff, nothing wrong there.
With all that said, wizards are pretty broken in 3.5 but I love them, unlike most people who just kind of groan outloud.
