As a pure mage there the character does not have much health to begin with, although a ring of minor health and The Galdur Amulet does give a health boost, it mostly just providing some defence against arrows, at level 12 able to get 120 armour. But the play style pretty much requires also having a warrior ally, for role playing purposes I use Lydia, and I do allow to carry a single dagger and some poisons for an extreme situation, although only having access to un-enchanted gloves and boots, so there is some loss potential there. Unless I raise enchanting skill. Largely it is a fun challenge.

Yeah, I like setting challenges for myself like that. Magic-only is a fun one. I do love me some Fireballs. But lately I have been forcing myself to do my Ice Storms just for variety. Plus the Ice Storms do have advantages.
The character I am currently playing is equipped in god-mode, which can be fun sometimes but otherwise kills the game. I think I am going to get him a new set of kit so that I can also play in a more normal way, and just switch to god-mode when someone really p*sses me off. Or for when fighting Falmers; I hate those nasty little critters.

have you thought about using the mod "The Ultimate Follower Overhaul"? I believe this mod is the mod that allows you to access your followers inventory and (if i'm not mistaken) take their clothing and replace it with other clothing which they will wear. Not to mention, if i remember correctly, it updates the followers AI so they are less buggy and will follow closer unless told otherwise.
Never be afraid to mod Elder Scrolls Games. The Lore Friendly mods and Overhauls are usually decent at capturing the feel of the games in more depth. Just read through the Requirements properly and NEVER mod the game without either, Making a backup OR using something like "The Nexus Mod Manager". The latter will install the mods for you and if you dislike the mod, it can uninstall it without causing issues (most of the time).

Alright, another question about building homesteads....
I'm playing through the civil war campaign as the Stormcloak's super commando and I just helped them liberate Falkreath hold and reinstate the old Jarl.
Of course, in gratitude, the Jarl named me Thane and allowed me to buy lands to build a homestead--Lakeview Manor.
So, I think I'm going to keep Rayya as Housecarl and use Marcurio as Steward... The area is really beautiful, but also seems a bit dangerous due to wildlife, bandits and the like. That's why I want to keep a Housecarl and a Steward. I think Marcurio and Rayya should be able to defend the place pretty well.
So, does my initial plan sound okay?
I'd be interested in any advice anybody would care to offer...

love Love LOVE this game!!
I started by playing Morrowind. I don't remember how I learned about it. Then I bought an XBox 360 just so I could play Oblivion. Now I'm playing Skyrim. I've been playing it for years. My character is level 51, Khajit, assassin. I have the Homestead extra and the vampire one (Dawnguard) as well as the Dragonborn one. I often get to about this level, then start again with another character. I'm still learing how to do things that I didn't know before. I could try other games, but the truth is, I don't think any would be as good as this. Even the music is wonderful.
Oh, did you know that they are planning to start an online Elder Scrolls game like World of Warcraft in April? I can't wait. I tried WOW and couldn't get into it.

I played Oblivion and Skyrim for over 300 hours each. Loved them.
Someone is in the process of converting Morrowind using Skyrim's engine right now, apparently. The plan is by next year or 2015 to have the three realms stitched together as one playable modded version, I guess.
GoonSquad - having a housecarl at Lakeview seems a good idea to me. That homestead does seem to have its share of bandits and so on.
I was rather disappointed in the bee house at Lakeview; it seems to respawn rather slowly. But that little pond-like thing nearby is a decent source of convenient mudcrab chitins.
Thomas81 - will be interested to learn how you enjoy the game.
I am now on Xbox 360, but am kicking around the idea of switching to PC so I can use some of the mods.
