SCUM - Version 1 - Now live
My youngest son told me when he was in his twenties.
He told me it was a came we (he, his older brother, and I) should play. If my sons suggest a game, I follow go for it because they are my sons. So we literally started playing August 29, 2018. I have been playing it off and on ever since. As is always the case, they moved on... "Project Zomboid looks like a game we would enjoy..."
So to day version one finally came out. I already had a server. I set it up the best I could (everything was reset).
I created a character, was dropped from the prison ship onto the island. I survived, finding a backpack (LUCK!) and doing pretty well. I stopped at a deserted farm, and there was an explosion (grenade). I turned around and character in full military gear was standing there, and shot me dead. "Well. How about that?" I thought my sons and I were the only ones that could get on.
(skipping more boring stuff)
I respawned near a town I'm very familiar with. My sons and I camped there back in 2018. I refer to it as "Our Town."
"Our Town" had changed. There were junk car barricades semi blocking all the roads.
I made it back to where I died wondering who got on my server, but also, because they were in full military gear, I wondered if it was a computer player? That would be new.
Found where my body had been. Only my stone axe and club with nails were present. (no backpack -

I continued on my journey I made it to a relatively safe place. I noticed it had changed too. The wall was in disrepair. And then a zombie charged me. I'm use to that. It was followed by two normal characters. Definitely computer generated characters. Are they going to help? Super! Zombie dead, and then they started attacking me. I did not want to kill them. With my health down to 11/100, I let them have it with my improvised sword. R.I.P.
So, now I know. SCUM has computer generated players that will trying to kill me, in addition to the zombies.
I cannot say I like that.
Overall, they made a lot of visual and superficial improvements to the game. I'm sure people will like it. I'm not sure I do anymore. But I always say that after a big change. I don't like killing computer civilians.
I am still playing. I created a server on a computer in my basement. The dangers have been minimized because what I really enjoy is exploring without the threat of death. I have found a tractor with missing parts, and repaired it. Zipping along at 40 MPH! But I really prefer walking. Why a server and not single player? Because I want to garden and with single player, or Sandbox, the garden stops growing when I log out. I think that is the only reason.
I've removed most of the things that will attack me. I still have the zombies and now human NPCs (Non-Player Character) that come from buildings in pairs with improvised weapon, although some are in military gear with hard core areas. The day before yesterday (July 8, 2025) I had wave after wave of these guys in gear come after me. This was after I repaired the tractor and was trying to head where I wanted to start my base. It was a bit annoying. I have changed several of the cities I go to into zero damage zones. I like to explore. Dying and loosing everything is some thing I can live with, but it really is annoying and eats up my time.
Reading my previous post, I have so many missing words and words that should be other words, like "came" should be "game." I usually read and read the posts over, but I know I will miss things. I don't think this is an autistic thing, but rather, maybe, an autistic reaction to high school English class grading. I have always, always been dreadful. Thank goodness for computers programs that catch spelling errors. Downloading objects takes a little longer than I'm use to as well. This has never been a speedy computer.
