Pokémon EmAARald: Lowbies Rise Again
Note: AAR stands for After Action Report
The previous thread, about Pokémon LeafGreen, can be found here.
Seeing as the first thread turned out to be quite successful, I'm going to do this one about Pokémon Emerald too.
We should have conditions similar to the former one. Only Pokémon up until Route 104 may be used. They don't have the same kickass quality of the Kanto lowbies, so perhaps it will be harder. The gym leaders in this game are also tougher!
I also noticed they removed Surskit from this game. Those bastards! >.<
Oh, the music in the opening scene is just so gorgeous.
Pfft, Professor Birch seems just as ret*d as his Kanto counterpart. We're going for a girl this time, if anything because it allows for more misogynic jokes.
We must pay respect to Erika of Celadon. Too bad you can't name rivals in this game, Gunilla would have been awesome.
I am incredibly traumatized by this dark, bumpy ride. I fell on the floor a few times. This better be a wonderful place.
What, three houses and a population of 8? Are you f*cking kidding me? How did the truck get here, anyway?
Hey, down in front! >_<
The clock in my game doesn't work, so it will always be the same. I picked 4 AM because it's Low Tide in the Shoal Cave at this time, which is WAY better than High Tide.
Don't forget the Potion...
I go to the lab, but the Aide there crushes me with the awesome powers of logic.
Erika: I don't care, I'm looking for Prof. Birch. Get out of my way before I punch you in the face!
Girl: *pulls out gun*
Erika: OK, OK...
He's not in! Let's steal his Pokémon like Silver did...
Er, it's not what it looks like.
Even Birch had trouble with that one. Why?
His name's Brendan, and he doesn't seem too happy with the prospect of a female neighbour, for some reason. cough*queer*cough
Erika: Why don't you have a rest here with me? I'm sure we could have lots of fun...
Brendan: Sorry, I'm busy playing Pokémon.
I wonder what Freud would think of that phrase.
Anyway, while I truly want to take all the Poké Balls and leave this incompetent nincompoop to die, we're going to have to help this sod.
What Starter should I get? (Note: The types are for the final evolution of the family, not the early stages)
Trecko/Grovyle/Sceptile: Pure Grass. Arguably the worst starter. It's weaknesses outnumbers it's resistances and the most powerful Grass move it can learn is Leaf Blade, with a mere 70 Power. Not recommended unless you want a real challenge.
Torchic/Combusken/Blaziken: Fire/Fighting. This is such an awesome Pokémon. It is one of the only Fire types in Hoenn, and the only Fire as well as Fighting type you can get this early in the game. It's Attack power is stronger than Special Attack. Makes for an easy game.
Mudkip/Marshtomp/Swampert: Water/Ground. The origin of the famous 4chan meme. It's the only Ground type available, but there are three water types available besides this one.
We also need to pick five of these:
Poochyena/Mightyena: Pure Dark. I haven't had much experience with this Pokémon. Mightyena has a high Attack power, but Dark moves are Special, not Physical. It does have an immunity to Psychic attacks, which come darn well in handy when battling the überpowerful Tate and Liza duo! Intimidate is a damn useful ability, too.
Zigzagoon/Linoone: Pure Normal. Raticate will pwn this sorry excuse of a Pokémon any time of the day. It makes a pretty good HM slave with it's Pickup ability, though.
(I won't bother listing their preevolutions) Beautifly: Bug/Flying. It learns moves such as Moonlight and Giga Drain. It's Special Attack is pretty good.
Dustox: Bug/Poison. Ironically, it has far more in common with Butterfree than Beautifly does, since their move sets are pretty much the same. It seems to be more adept at Defense and Special Defense, though. It's ability, Shield Dust is pretty cool. I'd probably pick this one over Beautifly.
Lotad/Lombre/Ludicolo: Grass/Water. It's a Mexican Pokémon!
Has both good Special Attack and Special Defense. When it's raining, either it's Speed is doubled (Swift Swim) or it's HP increases each turn (Rain Dish). Pretty powerful, if you ask me.
Seedot/Nuzleaf/Shiftry: Grass/Dark: A creepy Pokémon. Probably a better choice for a Dark Pokémon than Mightyena since it's Special Attack as well as other stats are higher.
Taillow/Swellow: Normal/Flying. We've had pretty bad experiences with Normal/Flying pogeys since last time. Maybe we should avoid the damn buggers? >_<
Wingull/Pelipper: Water/Flying. It has four times weakness against Electric, which sucks, but it's only other weakness is Rock and it has a bunch of resistances and even an immunity. Perhaps could prove to be a Pokémon to trust.
Ralts/Kirlia/Gardevoir: Pure Psychic. Being the only Psychic Pokémon available to us, as well as having awesome Special Attack and Special Defense, it's inclusion in our team is a given. Let's just hope we catch a female one.
Azurill/Marill/Azumarill: Pure Water. While it's cute, it's stats are hardly good. Doesn't have a very varied moveset either, I'd stay away from this Pokémon.
I want to hear your suggestions!
Our journey has just begun. ![]()

Mudkip would be my choice of Pokemon, I find Torchic really hard to play with, and I've never been a fan of fighting pets.
I'm just curious, is Emerald pretty much the same as Ruby and Sapphire? Because I have both of those and have played them both at least five times
I would die if you didn't pick Ralts - Gardevoir is my favourite pokemon and Ralts is second (Kirlia is a bit creepy) I also like Lotad and Beautifly a lot too.
Good question, there's a good list of it here:
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/ ... ld_Version
Aesthetic changes
Brendan and May have slight outfit changes.
Vigoroth are in place of Machoke (though the cries are not changed due to an oversight) moving boxes into Brendan's or May's house, while Zigzagoon is in place of Poochyena chasing Professor Birch. Similarly, the first Pokémon Trainer fought aside from the rival has a Poochyena.
Pokémon sprites are animated for the first time since Pokémon Crystal and this feature was defined as standard for the main series Pokémon games.
Every Gym has received at least a slight reorganization, with some Gyms receiving a complete overhaul in their design.
The color of the Champion room at the Elite Four changed from pink to green.
The legendary Pokémon battle intros include a different animation before moving into the battle scene. This animation involves, for the weather trio, their body pattern, or for the legendary golems, their eye pattern.
Storyline changes
Both Team Magma and Team Aqua are featured as the villainous teams, each stirring trouble at different stages in the game. The objective of each team, to awaken Groudon and Kyogre, respectively, is eventually fulfilled.
Rayquaza is prominent plot-wise, awakened in order to stop the destructive battle between Groudon and Kyogre. It is the one out of the four ancient Pokémon that can be captured prior to the Elite Four challenge, while still at the same place and on the same high level as in Ruby and Sapphire.
Gameplay changes
Groudon and Kyogre are captured at new locations and on higher levels.
The fleeing Pokémon across Hoenn, Latias or Latios, can be selected right after beating the Elite Four. The one that is not selected is available on Southern Island, requiring the promotional Eon Ticket.
The Regis' puzzles are somewhat different, though the same in principle.
Wireless linking with Union Room, as in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
Tag battles are available outside link-cable battling. Featured in the Battle Tower with a computer player (or, using the Wireless Adapter, a human player), as well as at the Space Center stage of the game, battling alongside Steven.
Double battles are more common as different Trainers can team up.
Gym Leaders may be rebattled in Double battles, with new Pokémon on their teams that are not regularly found in Hoenn.
The Trainer's Eyes is replaced by Match Call, which integrated a calling system similar to the PokéGear cellphone.
Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile may be acquired from Professor Birch after catching every Pokémon in the Hoenn Dex.
Deoxys is in its Speed Forme.
New map effects for abilities.
New item list for Pickup; Pokémon picks up item based on Pokémon's level.
Abilities have a role in breeding as Magma Armor and Flame Body hurry up the hatching process if a Pokémon which has them is in the party.
Passing-down natures with Everstone when breeding Pokémon.
Raise happiness and lower effort values with certain berries.
The Mystery Gift option of the Wireless Adapter primarily replaces the Mystery Events option of the e-Reader. The Enigma Berry is thus obtained through Mystery Gift, unlike in Ruby and Sapphire. Mystery Events are absent from the English version of the game.
Pokémon Contests are all held in Lilycove City.
Unlike Ruby and Sapphire, trade restrictions between games are in place. Trading with Ruby and Sapphire as well as with another Emerald only allows trading of Pokémon indigenous to Hoenn while the player possesses only the country's regional Pokédex, while the National Pokédex is required to trade with FireRed and LeafGreen and XD: Gale of Darkness. However, trading with Colosseum only requires the Hoenn Pokédex regardless of the Pokémon being traded.
Character changes
Contest Lady, Quiz Lady, or Favor Lady in Lilycove Pokémon Center.
New move tutors added, including most of the ones in FireRed and LeafGreen (all but Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn and Hydro Cannon), along with 15 others that teach moves previously acquired through Generation II TMs.
A new Gym Leader in the Sootopolis Gym, Juan.
A new Pokémon Champion, Wallace.
Steven appears in Meteor Falls after the Elite Four challenge, with all of his Pokémon at exactly 20 levels higher than in Ruby and Sapphire.
Scott, a new character introduced in Emerald, will meet the player numerous times throughout the game, ultimately inviting the player to the Battle Frontier.
Area additions
The fossils (Root Fossil, Claw Fossil) in the desert are now found in a short-lived tower called Mirage Tower that sinks into the ground once a fossil is chosen. However, the other fossil can now be acquired after the Elite Four challenge.
Battle Tents replace Pokémon Contest Halls in Verdanturf Town, Fallarbor Town and Slateport City.
A new battle area, Trainer Hill, which is similar to Trainer Tower found in FireRed and LeafGreen. Features e-Reader compatibility in the Japanese version.
Another new battle area, the Battle Frontier, an expansion of the existing Battle Tower.
New areas within the Safari Zone and Desert Underpass, introducing 17 Pokémon native to Johto and Kanto.
Terra Cave and Marine Cave, accessible only after defeating Elite Four, are home to Groudon and Kyogre, respectively. The caves are not fixed to one location, and in order to track them it is necessary to investigate the unusual patterns concluded by the Weather Institute.
Navel Rock, where Lugia and Ho-Oh appear, as well as Birth Island, where Deoxys appears, can be reached in the same way as in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
Mew appears on Faraway Island, an island that is located remote from Hoenn. Reaching the island requires a special promotional item, the Old Sea Map.
Altering Cave added, as in the one found in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
Wireless minigame house added to Mossdeep City, as in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
Utilizing GameShark, players can find hidden music in the games, including music originally used in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal.

Torchic was good the first time i took it ^.- . The great thing with the fighter moves is that later on, they can learn a handful of elemental punches, helps them turn a hard battle into an easy one
. Otherwise, tossup between Ludicolo (If you wanna be a party girl) and Shiftry (if you wanna send your stalker onto other girls like nurse Joy ;P )
I can't wait for you to battle the frontier brains
I recommend watching season 9 pokemon, my favorite brain must be Brandon, i like how he destroyed Paul in an unreleased US episode

I hope Brandon isn't THAT powerful in the games.
Why not both?

Because I support Democrazy, I guess I'll go for Mudkip (my brother voted for Mudkip too). *grumbles*
It's Attack is way more important than Special Attack, so we're going with this one.
Actually going to the first gym might be more important than going to some excursion with some fag. No thanks.
Birch: *pulls out gun* Because we don't want any unpleasantries, am I right?
Erika: Damn. All right then. >_<
Freakin' A-men.
F*ck Brendan, I'm getting out of here.
Erika: Which look suspiciously like your own footprints.
Idiot: Fascinating, isn't it?
Enslave demons, kill demons, pick berries and all that jazz?
It's a pretty crappy 'encyclopedia', but still.
Brendan acknowledges that Erika is more of a man than he'll ever be.
Yep, it's physically impossible to run without these shoes in the Pokémon universe.
Buy 10 or more Poké Balls, and you get a free Premier Ball too. Like a normal Poké Ball, but more awesome.
This ain't female, but the other Ralts I caught BOTH had Adamant nature (Increased Attack, Decreased Special Attack), so I think I'll go with this one. >_<
After some hesitation, this looks like a good candidate.
Oh, why not.
Pretty cool, eh?
Yes, exactly!
Terror. Sadness. Selfishness. Frustration. Schadenfraude.
If you try to go to Route 104, this annoying kid will ask you if you're a rookie trainer and show yout Petalbug's gym about a thousand times. So I guess we should take a look.
Erika and her dad gets into a really big argument. Due to his serious problem with alcohol, Erika's mother had divorced him and he resorted to starting a gym in Petalburg, but business was going bad and he's now near bankruptcy. He smells scotch and cologne. Suddenly an Aspie enters the gym and gives both of them a welcome distraction.
Erika: Hell n-
Norman: *gives Erika a really stern look*
Erika: Oh, of course.
Wally: Yay!
Wally also catches a cross-dressing Ralts, which of course can't compete with ours.
Erika challenges Norman to a fight. Norman goes into panic mode and tells her that he won't battle her until she has gotten four gym badges. Erik asks why not and Norman mumbles something about a 'greenhorn'. Erika leaves, cursing under her breath.
A guy named Scott appears and asks about a famous trainer called 'Erik', which he has looked all over the place for.
You know what? I think I'll dump my current Ralts and train this one instead. It has a Modest nature, and is female.
I did some extensive searching, but this was the only Seedot I found. There's about 1% chance of finding it. We'll go with this one, then.
Hmm... what should Wurmple evolve into? I want to go with Dustox!
Oh no, I'm surely screwed.
I thought about this a really long while. Since we already have two water Pokémon, and Mudkip being the only one with high Attack, we need Taillow.
We now have a full team assembled. ![]()

Mudkip hey .....
By the way I often have had a strange history of realy easily getting Ralts, it is a cool pokemon, besides Gardevoir is hot
, though the male version can in the latest gen be turned into Gallade, about the only pokemon that has any use for psycho cutter.

Through dream I travel, at lantern's call

Moves Lotad can learn if it doesn't evolve:
Mist at level 21.
Rain Dance at level 31.
Mega Drain at level 43.
Moves Lombre can learn:
Fake Out at level 19.
Fury Swipes at level 25.
Water Sport at level 31.
Thief at level 37.
Uproar at level 43.
Hydro Pump at level 49.
The moves Lotad can learn are way more useful than Lombre's. Should I keep it from evolving until level 43?
Moves Seedot can learn if it doesn't evolve:
Synthesis at level 21.
Sunny Day at level 31.
Explosion at level 43.
Moves Nuzleaf can learn:
Fake Out at level 19.
Torment at level 25.
Faint Attack at level 31.
Razor Wind at level 37.
Swagger at level 43.
Extrasensory at level 49.
Better to evolve Seedot early in this case, since it has the ability Early Bird instead of Chlorophyll.
Still, I haven't encountered this dilemma before. ![]()

So one could level up Lotad a lot, and 'relearn' a lot of moves after it evolves, but one cannot do it the other way around, so to speak.

Well, its good to see that you made the right decision and got a real Ralts. Them cross-dressing imposter's don't deserve to be in the protagonist's party unless they're in gen IV for that added evolution. Too bad you didnt get a poochenya, Gardevoir and Mightyena are my favorite creatures from gen 3.
I rather enjoyed your LeafGreen AAR playthrough, so I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
Sorry for not updating for a long while, but the foul foes of "Real Life" and "Procrastination" are rearing their ugly heads again. My Aerodactyl is currently performing a Rock Slide on them, and there will be an update tomorrow.
