Best system ever?

I'm sorry if there's a topic already about this; I really did not feel like going through fifty-something pages to find it and bump it.

What do you guys think is the best game system ever? My personal favorite is the N64, although the PS2 & Gamecube are both up there.

Tie between Wii and Xbox 360.

The PC. No other platform allows such extensive customisation, moddability and scalability. No other platform has as much indie content or as much genre variety. It's also the only platform that isn't tied to "generations", but advances constantly.

PC is the best in my opinion

Tie between the SNES, the Game Boy (Counting original, color and advanced in this) and the N64.

Windows PC, by a very, very long way.

I gotta go with the 64 It revolutionised gaming with the leap from 16 bit to 64 bit and in the process creating some of the most notable games in history. Super Mario 64 nearly changed the world and is apparently "The best game of all time."

Though it wasn't a true 64 bit system lolz

I used to be a proper Sega fanboy back in the day, but the company ruined my favourite franchises like the Shining and Phantasy Star series so sod them.

NES was my favorite. It may not look like much now, but it was probably the most advanced system for its time. And the games were amazing. Nearly every long running game series started on the NES - Mario, Zelda, Castlevania, Metroid, Mega Man, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Metal Gear, Ninja Gaiden, Contra... Those were the days when games set the trends instead of following them.

N64 and GameCube. I think the GameCube is underrated.

???... What do you mean by it wasn't a true 64 bit console? It doesn't have to be "poly pixel" to be classified bit.

Both of the N64's processors were 64-bit, so I would say it's a true 64-bit system. To call it revolutionary though is a stretch. The system's 64-bit capabilities were rarely used for practical reasons. Most N64 games ran in 32-bit mode. And the Sega Saturn (which came out earlier) was technically more advanced in many ways, despite being a 32-bit system. But the most successful system of that generation was the least technically impressive (Playstation) and that's also true of the next 2 generations (Playstation 2 and Wii.) So none of this technical stuff really matters much.

The PC will always be superior in technology because you can always upgrade it: Compare a console with PC equipped with a i7 processor, SSD, ATI 5970/NVidia 480 and 24 GB mem, and you'll start crying if you have a console because you CANNOT upgrade it like that. There is real, and not just fictional, backwards compatibility. You can run older stuff in it (VM or Emu) without having to manipulate the box, you can mod your games and also attach cool stuff like tripplehead projector "surround" gaming and Track IR.

Basically, a PC with all these possibilities turns consoles gaming to yesterdays P.O.S. It is more expensive - yes, but that's not what this topic is about.

The only thing that were better than a PC was the Amiga series, they had everything then that PC's got 10 years later, but Commodore f****d everything up.

The Nintendo 64? Yes it was.
