I'm still playing Halo, Combat Evolved, about to enter my seventh week. Have probably played 50-60 hours (on 'normal' difficulty), and am approaching the end of level 9 (of 10). Despite initial reservations, I've found it to be pretty challenging and enjoyable, and I just don't believe the people who say this game, and a lot of other older FPS games, take about 10 hours to complete.

Still haven't worked out what 'Halo' is BTW (a planet, a man-made satellite, a life-form in itself?) And why does Captain Keyes keep going AWOL? :)

Halo is actually "man"-made satellite; a super-weapon, built by an ancient, extinct and hyper-advanced alien race called the Forerunners, with the purpose of stopping the Flood by way of starving it. When fired, it annihilates all sentient life-forms across an entire section of the galaxy, and, long ago, it's first firing coincided with the sudden disappearance of its creators. I could say more but I'll leave the details from the novels and the sequels up for you to (try to) discover for yourself.

I would also explain to you why Captain Keyes did what he did, aka why he needed rescuing from the Covenant and why he got captured by the Flood, but a proper explanation of those actions, especially the former, is actually a pretty long story. If you're curious enough I might make one for you since I have a fairly thorough understanding of lore and the story of the Halo games, but I hope what I've explained already is helpful, nonetheless.

As a big fan of the original Halo games, I am glad that you are enjoying Halo: CE at your own pace. :D

^ Thanks for that, TheBraveSirRobin, things are a bit clearer now, and I'm happy to go on discovering stuff as I make my way through the Halo series.

A few minutes ago I just got to the bit where The Master Chief has battled his way to the top of the Control Room, to discover that Keyes has apparently been turned into some sort of inert giant potato, by the Flood no doubt.

LOL!

I played through a bit of F.E.A.R. 3's campaign earlier on with my cousin. Not a bad game, though it definitely shows signs of being a console port.

I'm playing through some Shin Megami Tensei games on my 3DS XL. Awesome underrated games IMO.

I am playing ARK: Survival Evolved because it's actually pretty cool for an Early Access game. You might say that the "dinosaur survival game" is a hopeless gimmick given how badly the early attempts at it failed (i.e., the abandonment of The Stomping Land and Beasts of Prey), but the feature-set of ARK really leverages the setting of a inhospitable island filled with dinosaurs to it's full potential and makes it stand out amongst other entries in a quickly growing genre. The basic summary of the game is that it's basically Rust, except with dinosaurs and a character leveling system. However, you can do more than just hunt dinosaurs and conquer the land, you can also tame dinosaurs. This mechanic might seem like a gimmick but it is, in fact, the avenue for the features that make ARK more enjoyable than the vast majority of other survival games. Tamed dinosaurs can defend you, they can help you hunt other dinosaurs and raid the bases of other player, they can carry items for you and they can gather resources for you. It's pretty f*****g awesome! While these features do not save it entirely from the follies of other survival games, it's hardly a gimmick and it really makes the whole experience more varied and more compelling.

Holy cow. I don't think I could ever spend that much time playing that game @_@ And I did a lot of goof-off stuff, like trying to punch my Warthog through a door where it didn't fit.

Once you get to the Flood, the game may as well be over. It is the worst. Unless I just happened to miss something...the floaty ball guy kept telling me that he was going to lead me to some better weapons, because swapping between the machine gun and the shotgun was just incredibly dull...but I never did find those weapons he promised me.

Yes, I'd say, give Isaac a go. I honestly consider it one of the best games ever made. Sooooooo good. From what I've seen alot of people that like Nuclear Throne also like Isaac. If you do try it though, make sure it's Rebirth, not the original. Rebirth is just a super-updated version of the original with a big pile of new mechanics and some damn silly number of new items/bosses/monsters. You can get a seriously absurd amount of replay value out of this. Hell, I think the game is up to what, 400+ items now? And over 50 different bosses? Among other things.

It's pretty darn difficult though in alot of the same ways that Nuclear Throne is. Lots of enemy patterns to remember, crazy attacks to master, bullets and such to be dodged, and decisions to make over the course of each run. Not that this is a problem...

Well, since you grabbed the game, I'll give a couple of quick tips, the sorts of things I wish I'd known when I first started with the game.

1. Look for "tinted rocks", which in the early levels are grey and have an "X" mark on them. Bombing these will most of the time get you a Soul Heart (the silver ones). You want these. In later levels they will just have the mark on them but wont be a different color, and so are harder to find.

2. If there's a rock (or skull or mushroom or even poo) that's right next to a 1 block wide hole, bombing it in the proper direction will sort of "smear" it over the hole, making a bridge. Many rooms are designed so that you need to do this to get items that are past that gap.

3. Devil rooms and cursed rooms (the ones with the spike doors) can seem bad at first, since you sacrifice health or heart containers to get at their items, but they're actually very desirable. They can have some VERY good stuff in them. Use these when you can. The chance of a devil room (or angel room) appearing when a boss is defeated is based on how much red-heart damage you've taken in the level; losing spirit or black hearts doesnt affect it. The more red-heart damage you've taken, the less likely a devil/angel room will show up. If there's a cursed room, you may want to wait till AFTER the boss to go into it, so the damage you take from it wont hurt your chances. Red chests are similar; they're often filled with spiders or troll bombs (or even super troll bombs), but when they are filled with something good, it's often something REALLY good.

4. DONT just grab every single item you come across. Think about it first, just like you would with a gun you find in Nuclear Throne. Bad synergies with other items can make you really dead, really fast. Such as doing bizarre things like having you shoot super bombs instead of tears, which then turn around and chase you till they explode. Or worse effects. Synergies are very important to consider at all times. Some of them can get really loopy... I had one once where instead of tears, I fired gigantic scythes that were so huge they filled the entire screen. This was just as hilarious as it sounds. All of that being said, experiment with everything when you can! Some items that seem pretty bad at first can turn out to be pretty great once you figure out how to best use them.

5. You can hold one trinket and one card, pill, or rune (runes are unlocked by doing the challenges) at a time. There is a key/button you can press to simply drop both when needed. There is one trinket, The Tick, which can be a problem... once you've grabbed this, it cant be dropped or switched out with another trinket. Not a good thing, so watch out for it.

And finally, two sites that REALLY help alot with learning the game:

1. http://bindingofisaacrebirth.gamepedia. ... birth_Wiki this has full data on EVERYTHING. Soooo much helpful stuff here. One thing in particular to look up is the bit on secret and super secret rooms. They're not totally random in where they spawn, and learning how they work can make it possible for you to deduce where they might be in a level.

and number 2, http://platinumgod.co.uk/ Super fast reference for checking out what items do. In the options menu at the top right you can set it to organize them by color, which helps a ton.

Since my memory is TERRIBLE I use both of those sites really often... they are very useful.

Good luck!

@Misery
Thanks for the tips, yeah I'll definitely be consulting the wiki to find out what item I'm picking up so it doesn't screw me.
