I still think this would be the "Chzo cycle", a set of short indie games made by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, one of the funniest human beings I have come across online. The "Chzo Cycle" is a horror series, but with clever and intelligent plot.

go to this link and download the first 4 games (they are now free and a donation is no longer required), and play them in the order given. The last game ("1213") is an unrelated platform game, but also fun.

I haven't played too many different video games in my life but I think the greatest I ever played was the original Paper Mario for N64. Every part of that game makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. The game had a very epic plot too. Another game I love is Kirby 64. It made me feel the same way as Paper Mario did and also had an epic plot.

Recently I mostly play Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Awesome Game.

I find this a difficult question to answer because most of the games I'm drawn to tend to be mediocre rather than innovative. Also, video games cover a vast range of genres and require very different skills; an arcade shoot-em-up requires quick reflexes while an RPG is more about problem solving. I have decided to nominate three games:

Sonic the Hedgehog -- this is the one that really opened up video games for me; has everything; graphics, sound, playability; took platform gaming to a new level.

Championship Manager -- once you've played this, it's impossible to take other football management sims seriously.

Grand Theft Auto -- added a new level of realism to driving/shoot-em-up/action games; made it possible to totally immerse yourself in such a game; an RPG for dummies.

Such a hard choice...

I can't really do a favorite of all time, but I can do a top list that are all pretty much equal...


Diablo II for its badass story/hectic gameplay and sick replay value.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, again, sick gameplay and some of the greatest replay value ever
Final Fantasy VI: One of the greatest stories and definitely the best villian that has ever been in a Final Fantasy.
Mass Effect 2: For what is (to me) the most awesome open ended RPG ever.
World of Warcraft: Besides simply being an extremely fun game, it's also the game that introduced me to what are my best friends, and even though we've all quit, we all still play other games together. Without the WoW, I wouldn't have that.
Final Fantasy XIII: I still haven't quite beaten the game yet (deliberately taking my time) but I already believe this FF has the best battle system in any FF and probably any JRPG.

Borderlands, though not on the list above, definitely takes the cake for FPS's for me. The story is kind of meh, but absolutely hilarious (and the DLC's just get even funnier, Knoxx and Ned had me in stitches) and since I play it with 3 other friends it's just absolutely awesome fun.

I can think of a few.

Banjo-Kazooie - the classic 3d action-adventure. I often compare other games with this one.

Lost Vikings - Probably one of the best action/puzzle games ever made IMO. The creators also made world of war craft, which makes me want to get an account.

Puggsy - Another great action/puzzle game for the genesis.

Longest Journey and longest journey:Dream fall - Epic pc adventure games.

Most of the Super Mario games and pokemon games.

Metal Gear Solid 3

Best FPS: Doom, Half-Life, System Shock 2
Best RTS: Command & Conquer, Total Annihilation, Starcraft
Best "I'm bored and don't feel like playing anything fancy": Solitaire, Minesweeper

Super Mario World is the best game ever in my opinion. No other game comes even remotely close, except for Super Mario Bros 3.

Mario Bros 3 took a great formula and made it better. I liked that Mario World let you explore the places you've already been, but I like Mario 3's gameplay and difficulty better.

Earthbound! Didn't play it until after high school, but I still have yet to play a game that got to me like that. Gotta get around to Mother 3 one of these days.
