Now days I play only on my computer and my Game Boy frenzy took a halt at Game Boy Advanced (I have all GB's up to BGA). I've played Pokemon for the big consoles and they can just not compare to the hand-held sensation of Pokemon gaming.

Conclusion, I need to get the new DS-3D (donno it's real name, just heard about it) because my birthday is coming up 7th of April.

Will be fun to see what has changed since I was 16. I hope they are still good.

- Fun fact -
Satoshi Tajiri as many of you know has Aspergers. As a child he used to spend a lot of time in nature areas around his house. There he would collect insects and study them since he had the wish to become a entomologist (scientific study of insects) when he grew up. His place of joy was after a time taken away from him as urbanization spread through the land and the area where he used to go and look for insects was paved over. He was saddened by this but he would always remember it as one of his happiest times as a child and planned to share his interest with the world and share the joy he had felt when he was hunting insects.
His nickname as a child, which he had gotten from the other kids was Dr. Bug.

Last played was Pokemon FireRed Version for GBA.
(and, Pokemon: Trading Card Game for GBA, which was awesome.)
My Pokemon addiction seized after I collected loads of cards from the trading card game. I played with a couple of people but since nobody showed interest I stopped playing, both the games and the cards. ( I still have everything though, I have some rare ones, sparkle cards)

I'm off to a big electronic store soon, going to scan for Nintendo DSi XL and maybe a couple of games like Pokemon and Zelda. (I'm a huge RPG fan so I hope DS has some kick ass RPGs. I was thinking about getting PSP some years ago just because of RPG games, but I didn't.)

i've always had a mild obsession with pokemon
in fact, i just about finished the first mystery dungeon

i really like that game
sure, it can get repetitive at times
but it's fun and the story is cute

Ooo, I have Trading Card Game for GBC! I've never seen the one for GBA, but the older one was also awesome. (It had lots of room for improvement, though.)

There are indeed some good RPGs. I really recommend The World Ends With You, even if it has a rough learning curve. I got used to the weird system eventually, and I'm glad I did.
Etrian Odyssey is a lot like one of those really old First Person RPGs. There are two games in the series, with a third game to be released. Very threadbare narrative, plenty of customisation, and lots of enemies that will beat you many times even if you take time to grind levels.
I have preordered Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. It seems good, but I'll know for sure in a few weeks.

The Ace Attorney games are also good, but not RPG. They're more like interactive comic books than anything.

Golden Sun was an awesome RPG for Advanced I cleared it twice and Golden Sun 2.

I don't know the games you're mentioning but it sounds like the DS stepped up with RPGs. Sounds good.
I went to the store yesterday to check things out and I took a look at the DSi XL and it was very nice.
Question is though should I get the DSi XL or should I wait for the DS3D? (the new one...).

Some games that I saw in the store were:
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume
Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes
Pokemon: Soul Silver
Pokemon: Platinum
Pokemon: Diamond

Arrgg,... there is to much I wanna play.
But I guess I'll start out with a Pokemon game and a RPG like Valkyrie or something else that you have mentioned.
(I checked them all on Gamespot)

The DS3D could take up to one year (March 11, 2011) to be released. At least that's what the official newsletter told me.
You might want one of the models with a GBA slot, though, as the Pokemon games for DS can use it to connect with the Generation III games. Mostly for transfer of pokemon and items, but there are also a few unlockables, like wild Gengar in D/P/Pl.

I have heard good things about Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume, but I have not played it.

I suggest you just get a DS lite. Cheaper than the DSi but it has a GBA slot, the DSi's only advantage is the ability to take photos and distort them, hardly worth the extra money to me.

The GBA slot is especially important for Pokemon, as it lets you migrate Pokemon you own in the third-generation games over to the fourth-generation games (one-way and permanent, though, beware!). This is the only way to have certain moves on some Pokemon in the fourth gen (for example, Blissey learns Seismic Toss, a very important move for her, by a move tutor only found in Fire Red/Leaf Green/Emerald). It also makes certain Pokemon appear on some routes after you get the National Dex. For example, Gligar appears under DPP's Cycling Road when an Emerald version is in the GBA slot.

I went out today and got the DSi XL + Valkyries Profile and Pokemon: Diamond ( I thought I'll start there then go towards Platinum and Soul Silver).

I don't know where my old Pokemon games are now days. I suspect they are in big moving boxes in another country, due to my studies abroad.

I'm still very happy with my DSi XL it's really nice, been surfing the Internet and spending free Shop Points where I found Bomberman which was cool. Then I killed about 2 hours getting to know Pokemon Diamond.

I'm thinking about checking Valkyrie but I have the feeling that if I open it and start playing I'll be stuck for hours (+I'm quite tired).

Platinum has the best endgame I've seen so far. I can't judge HG/SS yet, as I still only have two gym badges. But HG/SS does seem to be superior on the adventuring business. Just having a walking pokemon makes a huge difference. My Totodile noticed "the scent of smoke" before I could see the furnace ahead.

Yes it is good, I'm in Cianwood at the moment. I'm also playing on "hard mode: because I picked Chikorita, which has no advantage in the gyms. It was worried about the Sprout Tower shaking when I was in there...

I've been playing Diamond for 3 days straight now. Playing hand held really takes me back + Pokemon, very nice very nice.

I bought Final Fantasy A2: Grimoire of the Rift today in a huge electronic store and it was just laying there half off amongst a sea of sh***y games... maybe it's a sh***y FF game... naaa, I hope not.

I haven't tried Valkyrie Profile yet but Pokemon has devoured me totally, one game at a time I guess. Or after I get my 4th badge and then I'll take a pokébreak.

Ah, the fourth would be Wake- I mean Crasher Wake!

I could look at the rival in D/P/Pt forever. His battle animation amuses me greatly.

If I'm not mistaken the story is that he gets sucked in to a book and has to finish the adventure to get out.
In a way a story like that is just playing it safe but in my view totally acceptable, I don't mind being trapped in a book. I checked Gamespot.com and it has gotten 8/10.

I think I'm going to start Valkyrie Profile or FF A2 tonight... not quite sure which but I'm leaning towards FF.

Off to throw balls and earn some badges.
