I don't know how to quote, but I've played fallout 1-3 and fallout 3 is above far my favorite game of all time

Idunno. I haven't tried it for myself, but I've heard nothing but good things about UFO2000 (I think that's what it's called).

Mmm, good point. I was thinking mainly of Xenocide and Alien Invasion, I'll give 2000 a try.

I am playing the original UFO at the moment, and it still holds up today. Such an amazing game, with great atmosphere.

Am I alone in liking Apocalypse over UFO?

I could see an X-Com FPS being quite good.

I quite liked Apocolypse. I liked the destructable terrain, the city, the retro 50's tech and the cyborgs and mutant characters they added. I also liked the various factions (instead of governments) that were present in the city you defended.

The combat did feel rather crude though and even at the time the graphics were a bit strange. It's strange how Xcom and TFTD's old VGA graphics actually look quite visually appealing compared to Apocolypse's visuals.

I also didn't like the fact they made it dual real time or turn based. Realistically you had to play the game real time because the maps you fought on were so big compared to the previous games. Well saying that TFTD had some pretty big maps itself but Apoc took the piss.

I think they were going for an epic feel with the large maps. They were annoying sometimes, especially having to look everywhere for some critter that got stuck in a lavatory or something.

No doubt the combat was weaker than in UFO, the hands off approach needed severed the intimate contact with the troops.

Apocalypse had many faults but it was such an ambitious game, I'm amazed that it came out playable. Nothing really touches it for complexity, depth, scale, and the feeling of consequence for your every action.
