What do you consider scary?

Atmospheric scary(games like silent hill, Fatal Frame, and to add a non Japanese game Penumbra), not monsters popping out of cupboards and air shafts going "boo!".

I'll give it this Dead space started out atmospheric and scary, not knowing when you'd be attacked as you walk down the eerily silent corridors, but after a certain point it turned into another run and gun type of game with hordes of enemies after you all the time. but like I said I did enjoy dead space and I look forward to the sequel when it comes out.

Resident Evil 4 is my favorite, has the best gameplay and is genuinely stressful in the fact that you think you're gonna die every single time you encounter enemies. It's also quite atmospheric, which RE5 really lacks IMO.
