Lemme see here:

AvP 2, Doom 3, and FEAR . . . played in the dark . . . 5 pt surround sound w/ subwoofer . . . I had to turn on the light in the bathroom behind me just because I was getting paranoid as all hell (living alone in an apartment at the time, so it creeped the hell out of me). It's only cool the first five minutes, then you feel the urge to scream like a 5 year old.

Aww, well if you have an old PS1 or GameCube you could get them. Or I think on the Playstation 3 you can download RE1, 2, and 3 from the Playstation Network. :)

I prefer the Dreamcast ones 8)

Though they didn't port over the first game for some reason, so I have to dust off the PSX for that one.

Haven't played the remake yet, or Zero.

Left for Dead. Doesn't get more "horror survival" than that.

I'm sorry, but (IMO, of course) no Just no.

L4D is more of an action FPS shoot em up that just so happens to be categorized as a horror survival.

The only time I ever got scared playing any of the levels in either of the games was the very first time I got caught up by a Smoker in L4D 1 FROM BEHIND and that was with the lights off at around 2 in the morning and no one else had mics and I had the volume (Dolby Digital surround sound is SOOOOO awesome) cranked up all the way.

And that was my first day playing the game and I was kinda just getting to know my way around the game.

And it wasn't even really being scared, just surprise, to be quite honest.

I wouldn't say Left 4 Dead was a bad game. Certainly not what I'd call a true Survival Horror Game, but it was fun and fans of zombies should like it. It kind of reminds me of Resident Evil: Outbreak but in a first person view.

The Ship isn't exactly a survival horror game, but it's a survival game.

For Left 4 Dead to be a survival horror game they would need to redesign some parts or make the story for each chapter more impressive.

That was a fun game. Haven't played it for years though, I would have thought that nobody plays it online anymore so it wouldn't be fun.

OP definitely check out the Penumbra games. I got the three of them for $20 and they were pretty good.

Just bought them yesterday! They're nice but nothing scary yet and I'm about to finish the first one.

There are still people playing it.

well to list a few more I enjoyed, even though they may be console games/rarities.

Run Like Hell - PS2
The original Alien vs Predator game for the PC (I dont care for the new one at all)
There were a few good survival horrow mods for various games. The ones that come to mind though were for Warcraft III, NWN, and Oblivion/Morrowind. I forget names other than I think the Oblivion one was called Gates to Aesgard

I know you mentioned PC, but the absolute scariest and awesome Horror game I have ever played was "Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem" on the Gamecube. That game is very freaky and it stays with you... good luck sleeping after that.

I think the big thing that'd make it more of a survival horror game would be to add a need for rationing. Even when you're out of all ammo, your basic handgun has infinite ammo. It's not much in the survival aspect if ammo is free.

Great game, though. I love playing L4D2.
