Wow. You're really having problems with this. I've never struggled this much (not that I play a lot of Xbox games on the 360).

Is your XBox hooked up to the internet and you're logged into XBL when you put the disc in?

Yes. And the same problem occurs.

And zer0netgain, yes, I thought this problem would've been sorted by now.

ok, so you have a XBL account that is active
you put in your original disk and you are not prompted to install an update...is that correct?

if that is correct and it won't play go to this link...scroll down the page and in the middle is a link to download the backward compatibility software...says about 2.5mb...follow the directions to open it and burn a CD

That's weird...but maybe alone's suggestion will work.

I dunno, I've had two 360s (first gen and just recently got a 250slim) and haven't had problems with my older games on it...but then again, I think I've only ever done Mega Man Anniversary Collection and Jade Empire.

Sorry to say this, but I've tried that as well. I did everything as instructed, installed the patch, the screen went black, and went back to the Dashboard. After that, I put the XBOX Original Disc in, and the same thing happens. Is it my 120gb HDD? Or the XBOX 360 itself.

Ok if I have read correctly you have two games you have tried. Sorry if you have tried more. I don't know where you live but take the disk to your local used game store and ask them to pop it in their 360. I'm thinking your 360 doesn't like it since it plays fine on the original console. There is often no rhyme or reason to why things don't work and you have to resort to the simple elimination model of troubleshooting. I have found it is sometimes the easiest route when you've done all the suggested stuff. I commit to resolution, at any cost.

I am with you, it is either your 360 or neither disk works. You need another 360 to test it, and one of the same release generation.

And, no it's fine, thankyou very much to everyone with their advice. I'm going to try just that, and if that doesn't work, I'm going to refund them both.

The Xbox 360 uses completely different hardware than the original Xbox. The Xbox 360 uses a PowerPC Processor and the original Xbox uses a custom Pentium III Processor.

When you insert your game into the XBox 360 it should automatically go out to Microsoft's B/C servers and download the emulation patch. I picked up Pure Pinball for my XBox and plugged it into my XBox 360 and it said an update is needed. Then you click ok and it gets the emulation update and you can play the game. Microsoft should just put all the emulation updates on the HDD of future XBox 360 Slims. The files can't be more then 5000Kb a piece. It should take up no more then a few MB I would think for all the emulations. Anyway, that's the only way I know of to get the patch. I'm not sure if these patches are transferable from XBox 360 to XBox 360. Even if they were, you'd have to find a person who has the emulation or see if you could get it off a BitTorrent site.

It really sounds like it's a problem with your XBox 360. Some how the emulation software is corrupted or not working properly. I don't know the name of the software, but you may have to remove it and reinstall it. I have yet to try an original XBox game on my new 250GB 360 Slim. I copied everything over from my old 120GB XBox 360 to the Slim. I'll have to try some old XBox 360 games when I get home. You should call M$ support help desk though.

They should have written basically a Microsoft Virtual PC for the Xbox 360 to emulate the original Xbox and be mostly done with it and not have to write a whole bunch of emulation profiles. I think there is enough power for that on the Xbox 360.
