Yay, I have the game now. It reminds me a lot of Metroid, particularly when you go underground.

If only I had the ability/knowledge on hosting a server, Catland's underground jungle lies just after the first corruption patch when heading east. It's only a couple yards underground. :P

I don't see any jungle roses though. Which sucks because I want the Blade of Grass.

Just wait until you get to the stone layer if you haven't already, it's like going into Kraid. :P

And hell in this game is a lot like Norfair.

I'm a huge Metroid nut, so this game seems like a great fit for me. I've barely played Minecraft because it lags for me(My coomp can play HL2(2007 graphical updated version) on medium-high details with no difficulty, but MC is poorly coded and requires a more powerful system apparently.

Jtc, man (Or woman idk). I love the metroid series. It's like, my favourite game series. I've played metroid prime one like fifty billion times. The only game in that series I haven't beaten a thousand times is metroid II: return of samus. Never got my hands on a copy.

I'm going to (Or try to) recreate Zebes in this game when I get the endgame gear. I just have no idea what blocks to use. :P

I'm a guy. At least I'm pretty sure I am :? . Metroid is among my favorite series and is definitely my favorite Nintendo franchise I have played every game save Other M, Super Metroid, and Pinball but I've only beaten Fusion, Hunters, and Zero Mission. I own a copy of Metroid two both physically and on my computer(emu rom). But I've never been able to find a good SNES emulator to play Super Metroid. I tend to have difficulty commiting myself to playing games all the way through which is the reason why I haven't beaten MP1 and 3. 2 is very hard, so I don't imagine I'll beat it anytime soon. I've beaten Fusion and Zero Mission each like 10 times.

Metroid Prime 2 is ridiculous, it took me like a bajillion tries to beat it on hard mode. The hardest boss in that entire game is the boost ball guardian. Even when I beat the thing I died from the atmosphere of dark aether.

I liked Other M. Despite my misgivings about it initially, Nintendo didn't disappoint and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was going to turn into Ninja Gaiden (Which I really don't like) but Team Ninja did a great job of giving it the metroid feel.

I'm somewhat the same myself though. I'm usually a very busy person, so I don't always have time. And I have a lot of trouble playing games for longer than five minutes if I'm really not in the mood.

I've been playing this game recently. I've started a new character and world. Haven't tried the new hardcore mode though.

And I'm havin' fun with the map editor. :P

Just getting rid of corruption zones though.

I played it a bit. I found it fun, but got bored of it fast.

Also, anyone seen this video before? I found it hilarious.

You're very shallow then. :P

It's only on PC, and you could easily find out tons of information about it with a simple Google search.

all i see when i look at this game is minecraft rip-off. they made this to steal minecraft's fame even before minecraft gets out of beta, and they could do any better then a 2d game.

i'll take the real thing over this imitation any day.

thanks for the insult, just another reason to not trust anyone.

i looked at the trailer on steam and read the description and all i saw was minecraft. minecraft is a sandbox, adventure, survival game, and that was from reading terriare's [can't spell and don't care] description. the only thing the 2d version lacks is the 3d part.

this is the same as xbox and hyundai, xbox moched off of nintendo and sony, and hyundai moched off of ford and chevy, and thus i hate both.

either someone who played minecraft made terria, or someone else saw how much fame minecraft was gaining just to steal their thunder. i'm going with the second reason.

You're welcome. I don't have much patience for people who can't think for themselves.

I own Terraria (which is the title of this thread, and is mentioned many times within, so you have no reason not to take 2 seconds to look at the top-left of your screen to see how to spell it correctly), and have read the store page, and there is no mention at all of Minecraft. Minecraft is not the first game to feature cube-based building and/or gameplay (it was directly influenced by a game called Infiniminer), yet you have no problem with that. Also, Terraria is in no way a clone of Minecraft: the only gameplay elements it has in common with Minecraft is that you can destroy and place blocks to shape the world, and that you must defend yourself from enemies. Oh, and let's not forget Wurm Online, which the creator of Minecraft worked on previously (and took the company's logo from), which features a sandbox world with terraforming and monsters too. So Minecraft is nothing special. Besides, if we didn't have competition or innovation, we wouldn't have nearly as big a variety of anything that we have today.

Terraria was and is meant in no way to contend with Minecraft either. Minecraft has a far superior building system, since you are very limited in a 2D sidescrolling game like Terraria. On the other hand, Terraria has RPG elements, which Minecraft mostly lacks, like magic, bosses, dungeons, and loot.

I hate it when people follow Notch blindly; so many do it, and he's not special at all. Let's not forget that he was completely talking out of his ass about Unlimited Detail. And at least the creators of Terraria care greatly about their game and release content updates very frequently.

So, obviously, they're very different games, which target a different audience. ;)

i was being sarcastic, what i ment was "oh good another reason to hate humanity as a whole."

you can't see the top left corner when posting a reply and my memory for most things is zero, really the only thing i care to remember important information for longer the 5 seconds is my story and my games. everything else i forget like a gold fish, believe me it get's frustertating.

infaminer looks horrible, graphics suck and the characters are 2d in a 3d world.

destroy\place blocks, make tools and armor, build machines, mob traps, blow stuff up, build houses, castles, dig mines, go exploring in caves, the farther down you go the better the materials you find, fight off mobs at night, random generating world, the only part minecraft does not have is lvling it has loot, creepers drop gunpowder, spiders drop string, zombie's drop feathers.

loot is just an item that drops when you kill something, terria may have more loot or better loot, but they both have loot, and to be honest i would rather not have a big boss in minecraft.

what's worms online never heard of it so the fact he took something from them means nothing to me. innovation, 2d is downgrading.

dungeons are in minecraft they are not huge but they are dungeons, magic would be nice though like a freeze attack for skeletons and creepers.

unlimited detail? once again never heard of it. i hate it when you go online and everyone expects you to know everything they are talking about regardless to the fact that it is impossible to do. they care then why do the characters have one animation for building, attacking, destorying, etc, sounds lazy to me.

the only different audience is 2d or 3d. if you want me to try the game give me 10 bucks so that way when i do find out it is a copy and badly pasted mincraft then i will have comfort knowing i didn't throw my money away.

i don't follow notch, i not like some i just play minecraft i never look into what's coming, changes, etc.

but i am a narcissist, who loves to see if she can get a rise out of people. the reason i don't like this game is because it's 2d and looks like what i'm already playing, but poorly done.

hell i'm pissed about all the crap ass 2d games coming out in the next few years. i wish the would have made ff4 complete edition 3d but noooo even though the psp can handle it, i would have got the game too if it wasn't 2d.

Well, if true, that might explain why you refuse to pay attention to anything I say. I'm narcissistic myself, but I am at least smart enough to think for myself, and accept facts when I see them. ;) S, anyways, your charade won't work on me.

I know you were being sarcastic. I was not however.

Perhaps if you don't know something, like what Wurm Online is, or Unlimited Detail, you could, oh, I don't know, take a minute or so out of your precious time to look them up, since they both are connected to the argument?

Of course Infiniminer looks low quality, it's vaporware that hasn't been worked on in years. It is almost exactly the same as Minecraft in its design, so if you want the "original" instead of an "imitation", play Infiniminer instead.

As I meant to say, Terraria has a much more RPG and combat focus than Minecraft, even though their advertising for Terraria is a bit misleading, as they make it out to be a huge sandbox like Minecraft, which it is not.

Quote:

Which is why I said that Minecraft and Terraria cater to different audiences, not the same. One is a sidescrolling RPG with some building elements thrown in, the other is a sandbox building game with some RPG elements thrown in. I sure hope you can figure out which is which.

If you payed attention to the content of this post thus far, and my previous post, I laid out plainly the major differences between these two games, which are a lot more than how many dimensions they are played in. But I can see that you're just argue for argument's sake, which I don't understand because it will offer you no ego boost in losing this argument. Don't think you can beat me, I've been doing this for far too long. Plus, I have intelligence and facts on my side, while you only have your deliberate ignorance. Game, set, match.
