Surtur in Castle of the Winds, it's the only RPG I ever finished cause it was the only one I was better at than my younger brothers. It is seriously like I step up from text adventure. Nowadays I more play racing/sports/sim games so...

Pretty much every major boss from ANY Shin Megami Tensei game. Those games CHEAT. Most bosses have moves that can give them extra turns, heal huge chunks of their health, unblockable attacks, and are generally built never to die. Some bosses even have instant-kill moves (often unblockable) that if they hit the MC, it's an instant game over. They rarely have weaknesses and usually null/void at least one major type of attack. Oh, and sometimes they have spells that make your characters either transform into something completely useless or make your characters turn against the party.

Memorable bosses include: the Matador from Nocturne, Bat, Vasuki, and Ravana from DDS1, Meganada from DDS2 and pretty much every single end-game boss ever.

SMT bosses are just generally evil. But that's what makes those games so fun! >XD

I have never beaten Mr Yeti at the end of Mr Nutz on the Super Nintendo. I just cant do it. If anyone knows how I'd love a PM. I was able to beat him in the GBA version but I think they made the game easier for kids on that system.

Dark Yojimbo in Final Fantasy X. Without using Zanmato, that is.

The Icon of Sin on Doom 2. I couldn't destroy it, because the monsters it would continually spawn kept getting in the way. And even once I did clear a path though the monsters, it had to be shot in one specific area (the peeled open skull where the brain showed) and I still could never do it. :?

Duriel In Diablo II, Duriel is the boss at The Tomb of Tal'Rasha. as a sorceress (and every other class) I found this boss to be extremely hard, far harder than Diablo himself.

Definately not the hardest, but most annoying in my opinion, but mine would be Lloyd in Legend of Dragoon. Constantly having to check & make sure you have no more than 1 bar of Dragoon power so if you're transformed when he attacks with the Buster it doesn't insta-kill you(very common, if you're not into grinding)

Speaking of FFX bosses, Jecht took me a while, he would always pwn me in his 2nd phase. *Sits through long cutscene for the millionth time*
But the next time I played through, I did a ton of side stuff, and the battle became too easy. O_O

Touhou has some hard bosses (still need to defeat a few in particular), but I think I faced harder before, I just can't remember from where....

Ahhh his freezing aura was infuriating while using a melee weapon... countless trips through the town portal that you would leave at the entrance after repetitively dying... then online gameplay was discovered 8)

Also Diablo himself in the original game... i remember there was only so much XP you could get in single player mode... and it would only leave your character barely powerful enough to maybe fluke his demise... i succeeded with a warrior first try after failing to many times with the rogue... however even with my warrior i could never do it a second time...

The hardest boss I've ever faced?

That's easy.

That'd be Larsa, from Mushihime-sama Futari.

Believe me, it's much, much, ***MUCH*** harder than it even looks. And it looks like a nightmare. Probably less than 10 people have ever defeated her; I'm not one of them, lol. But I can at least get halfway through that fight, with luck.

I love super-difficult games, but nothing else even remotely comes close to comparing to Larsa.

you have that game O_O wow i never even seen it anywhere. i never played it but i agree that boss looks insanely difficult, i don't even need to play the game to know that i never want to try to fight larsa.

i am amazed at how 80% of the time you can hardly see the boss or your ship.

my hardest bosses are nothing compared to that.

that's cool that you can make it that far though.

It's only available in Japan, as with nearly all of Cave's games; only the first Deathsmiles can be found at retail here, and Guwange and Deathsmiles 2 can be found on XBLA. Futari, at least, is region free though. I have a JP 360 though, is how I have these games.

Fortunately with Futari, there's so many modes to choose from; Ultra mode, insane as it is, actually isnt particularly enjoyable; it's frustrating, and since it's nigh-impossible to even SURVIVE half the time, trying to score points is futile. And for many shmup fans such as myself, scoring is half the fun. So the other modes, of which there are many, are more enjoyable.

Such a brilliant game though, either way.
