I quite like playing with other's, though I rarely get the chance.

I only play single player. One of the things that I dont like about modern games is that they are focusing a lot on multi player gaming and not developing strong single game experiences.

From a story perspective, Skyrim is debatable, as are most TES games. The series does have great law though.

Sorry, but as far as I'm concerned, virtually all wrpg stories are garbage(along with most other aspects of those games). Well, I suppose I can't judge the Mass Effect series, since I haven't checked it out yet, but every wrpg I've come across has failed to impress me with its story. A lot of modern jrpgs fail in that department too, but I can think of a ton of jrpgs that I've played over the years with stories that put Skyrim, Dragon Age Origins and Fallout 3 to shame. Skyrim's the only one out of the three I managed to get some enjoyment out of, and that's only because it's fun to mess around in. Ironically enough, that's the only one I didn't pay for either, since I received it as a Christmas gift from a friend of mine. I certainly don't share the same affinity for it as he does, but I do consider it an improvement over everything else I've played wrpg wise. Long story short, I decided quite a while back to stop wasting money on those kinds of games, since, like with fps, I just don't get the appeal of them, and find them beyond overrated.

Anyways, back on topic, I prefer to game alone. I guess it's because that has always been the case for me. I've only ever been able to play multiplayer games with people when I invited them over, or went over to their place. Otherwise, I've always been on my own. Now that it's an option with online play, I still don't care for it, aside from being able to play with some of my forum friends a couple times a week, which is actually pretty cool. For the most part though, I prefer to game alone. A game doesn't have to have a good story if the story is not the focus, but I'd rather the quality of the singleplayer portion of a game not be sacrificed, just so that the game can have multiplayer. In fact, not everything needs multiplayer. The whole notion that it does is ret*d. There's a time and a place for it, and there are games that lend really well to it, but not all games do.

I guess I never really got into the competitive spirit that these multiplayer games revolve around. I've been gaming for 20 years, but I'm not that great at multiplayer. On the other hand, I can tackle some pretty challenging singleplayer games head on, from Contra to a proper SMT game. I don't always play games for the challenge though, which is a good thing, since the vast majority of modern games are designed in such a way that a monkey could beat them. It's hard to believe now that there was once a time when beating a game was a legitimate accomplishment. Even most tributes to older games are simpler in terms of difficulty. Demon's Souls really made people cry? Wow, modern gamers are pathetic. To be fair, it's the fault of modern devs, since games are so easy now that people are used to games being like that. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy most modern games. Quite the opposite, really. I tend to play games to relax, so I can sit back and enjoy games like Uncharted just fine.

Great thread, but I would like to point out that the title gave me a different impression. I'm glad I decided to check it out anyways out of curiosity.

I played SSX with my dad and brother last night. Never again. I hate gaming around other people. It makes me even more prone to screw up on a game.

Both, sometimes I like to play the old school RPG's from the early 1980's using an Apple //e emulator although I do enjoy Farmville with my high school buddies as well as "Anarchy Online" and "World of Tanks."

I agree with your statement. Once upon a time it was a real challenge to complete a game in its entirety.

I am a lone gamer. Playing online gets old fast. However, I like to play multiplayer games offline (for example, Wii Sports and Donkey Kong Country Returns), although single player games are way better.

(only played Oblivion and Skyrim) Oblivions main story sucked, the guild stories were pretty good. Skyrim had crappy storylines but much better gameplay

I only play with others online on LBP2. Everything else is single player for me.

I like the benefits of teamwork, i.e. raiding in WoW, coordinated PVP in EVE Online, etc ... As I've become more socially averse I find I get an anxiety about playing with NT's. I realize they try to start conversations, but I don't reciprocate very well and feel this contributes to my sense of anxiety and feeling out-of-place.

I used to raid in WoW, but eventually the social awkwardness caused enough friction that I stepped down from 25 man progression raiding to 10 man friend & family raiding. It was still a great time and as GM and raid leader I was able to push us to the limits of 10 man progression ...then I got to bored/bold and pushed us into a 25 man guild and things spiraled out from there.

Point is, I enjoy achieving the things only possible with teamwork, but the social expectations of NT's are too much for me to accommodate at this point.

I like the option of multi player but hate when it is forced multi player...especially online. Or online only multi player, online players tend to be immature idiots that only want to win, not have fun.

I like multi player and single player evenly, assuming the other person/people I'm playing with aren't being cheap or taking it too seriously. But it should always be an option, not required.

I prefer single player in most cases. I really dislike online gaming, especially when I don't know the person I am playing with/against.

I do, however enjoy multiplayer in games like Mario Party. Where everything is just fun and the focus rarely is entirely on me. It can be a lot of fun, more so than playing Mario Party alone.

But other than that I play single player, preferably with none watching me while I am playing.

That is my main issue with online only multi player...particularly when you can't send invites to those you know.
