I thought I was losing interest as well~

But that was before I started XCOM - I've been playing it for 5 hours straight everyday.
I only seem to game in bursts like this. A week ago I barely played anything, maybe once or twice a week.
I guess it's because I don't have any games that I play passively or casually anymore, since I quit WoW.

Seems to kind of happened to me over the past few years; I can never keep up or my attention span is short.

I totally feel this! I can't play computer games anymore.... I just bought Black Ops 2 last month, and I was forcing myself to play it. I just feel a disconnect and the only reason I play is to talk on the mic, as it feels more interactive. It's the first year I'm not asking for any video games for Christmas, I feel like I'm getting old lol. One game I do want to play is GTA V though! That'll be my next big game this Spring.

As someone who lives kind of out in the country and video games seem to be my only escape from boredom. I mostly play PC games since I don't have a console. But for the last few years I have seriously lost interest in spending long times of playing games. 90% of my time now has been spent using youtube or other websites and the other remaining 10% of the time I am on my computer I am actually gaming. I would like to know what is wrong with me here that I just don't have this interest in gaming anymore. How can I get back? What should I do? Anyone else have this/
Have any of you heard of GOG.com? That's where I get a lot of my old games, the GOG stands for Good Old Games. No one mentioned it so I figured I should. I have the same issue with my lack of interest in gaming, I am starting to care more about academic subjects and my future more than my favorite hobbie(I still end up playing games more than 5 hours quite often). Most of the time I spend is on the internet reading, using forums, and watching Youtube videos.

Like FPS games for example as I personally feel they have just become stale and I don't think the gameplay can/will improve until the next gen. I guess my general interest has some what declined as well, purely because I don't play them for hours on end like I used to when I was younger.

Metro 2033 ?

Far Cry 2 ?

I've been thinking on this, and a lot of my issue is with current trends in game design. While the 3d style that's so popular is REALLY cool and often very pretty....it feels more like work than play to process it and interact with it. Once I realized that and started focusing my attention on 2d games, I'm finding myself much more interested in playing. I've never been obsessively interested in games, but they were once a strong interest. I seem to be regaining much of the enjoyment I once had.

I've no idea if that has anything to do with what anyone else is going through, but it seems to have a lot to do with my personal loss of interest.

For years I used to be crazy about console games like Nintendo and Sega bet recently I'm playing my Sims games on PC while my Wii, SNES and DS mostly sit around and collect dust. For ages I'd play the console versions of the Sims games with little idea how much better they were on PC until I got the Sims 3 for Wii around 3 years ago for Christmas and didn't like it and found it very buggy and glitchy. So I finally started buying the Sims 2 and whatever other expansions I could still find and it was like OMG, WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING ALL THESE YEARS?!? Of course, back then my computer was old, slow and could barely play even Sims 2 without crashing and I had to wait for what felt like an eternity until Christmas to get a new computer from my parents, and then I started playing the Sims 3 and I've been hooked ever since. I even created Sim versions of video game characters like the Mario Brothers and cartoon characters like Disney and Shrek. But I feel bad and guilty because I'm "neglecting" my console games which is weird. I also have some other PC games like Plants vs. Zombies but I don't play them much and I also spend much of my spare time playing FB games and Neopets and going on YT where I have a whole bunch of videos I made and uploaded from Sims and Spore. I have never played any of the Sim City games as I don't find them nearly as interesting although I like the Sim City Social game on FB . I still want my Nintendo games to be a part of my life but I can't play ALL my games ALL the time, my brain feels fried just at the thought of it. :( I have other interests and responsibilities as well, though not as many as the average adult. :?

Maybe it's time to change. I, myself was a hardcore gamer for a couple years, but last year I suddenly lost interest, I sometimes play Battlefield though, I mostly just browse the web, watch ponies, and learn computer stuff. I find myself bored a lot more often though.

I was a hardcore gamer for most of my teenaged life, until I decided to change everything, pawned my entire game collection and moved my focus strictly on my guitar playing. Now years later I'm getting back to being a hardcore gamer slowly. I got myself a PS3 and XboX360 with a ton of games I haven't yet played through, and I have preordered the PS4 for this year.

Single life is awesome. If I had whiskey everything would be fine.

I feel to be in a similar 'loss of interest', but it seems to stem mostly from, 'I'm tired of the bullcrap that we have to pick though to just play a game', ranging from unavailability of older titles for no discernible reason or price[Virtual Console], corrupt practices that would make a Somalian pirate blush[Electronic Aberration and Actibuzzard seem to be in a race of corruption], scrambling around headlessy with no idea of design [Nintendo and the Wii-U], unappealing yearly franchises, and so on.

I think I might be able to solve this in part my expanding out from the stale and limited realm of Nintendo, and look into their most direct rival, Sony.

I've lost some interest, but it's less about the games themselves then my inability to focus on them. I enjoy the games when I'm a rare focused mood, or it's a point and click kind of game where it's not super interactive.
I enjoy watching people play video games just as much as I ever did playing though, so watching my BF play and videos online is appealing to me at the moment.

A lof of AAA games nowadays are just mediocre, unfortunately.

I've always been picky about games, so even though I play maybe 3-4 titles tops per year, I still generally enjoy the games I DO play. But most of the stuff that comes out doesn't really interest me.

I've been playing games seriously since the SNES days, and in my case it's probably a combination of age and having played so many games that it takes some extra effort by one to get my attention nowadays.

This sort of thing, I think, is what more people need to do, if they find their interest lowering.

I was mostly a console gamer for a very long time..... got started back with the 2600 and original NES, and kept up for quite a long while though.

In recent years though, console gaming has gotten more and more.... well, bloody stupid. You get braindead games like CoD, where the developers seem to think that if they stick enough guns and "set piece" moments into a game, it'll be an instant classic..... or you get games like, well, ANYTHING made by Square, where the game is entirely built out of long-winded and almost always incredibly freaking awful cutscenes. Games trying to be freaking movies (I haaaaaaaaaaaaate movies... all of them) and developers focusing WAY too freaking hard on graphics are a couple of trends that drive me up the wall.

And if you take the damn things online..... it just gets even worse, when you see how people BEHAVE on there.

At some point, enough was enough, for me. The consoles now are only used for a couple of things: 1, import shmups, which is the only reason I have a 360 anymore (which is a JP unit), and 2, fighting games (the PS3). Other than that, the things are basically glorified paperweights. Heck if I even know where the PS3 is half the time.... and heck if I actually CARE where it is much of the time.

Because of the high amount of derpitude that currently exists for the consoles, I started looking into PC gaming more. And that, really, was what did it for me. More specifically, I jumped into the wacky world of indie games, and finally, HERE was everything I could possibly want out of gaming, and more. Many of these developers really know what the original point of gaming is, which is to be FUN. Many of them know that you dont HAVE to pour millions of dollars into a development budget JUST for graphics in order to get a good game. Heck, many of my favorite games (such as Dwarf Fortress, or many Roguelikes) barely HAVE graphics (and dont NEED them). All of the challenge and good gameplay that I want is found here, and my collection of games on PC has grown tremendously. I have 108 games on Steam alone, and almost all of them are indie titles. It doesnt even matter what genre I'm after.... somewhere in the realm of the indie devs, I *will* find it, and there'll be alot of it. There's some deeply brilliant stuff out there. And the best part is, the indie devs arent like alot of the big triple-A console devs. They're not in it just to print money, they're not under some big publisher..... they dont have to just sit there making games that match a trend, instead, they have total freedom to make the game that THEY want to make.

The only problem with indie games though..... is finding them. They dont get big advertisements everywhere, or any sort of real marketing most of the time. You're only very rarely going to hear about them in gaming magazines or whatever, and even then, it'll only be the bigger ones. To REALLY find these, a bit of searching is often necessary, and you have to know where to look. Steam is a good start, but..... there's way more out there than just what's on there.

And that's not to say that I dont still play some of the bigger, non-indie PC games out there, as there's some darned good stuff to be found there as well, particularly among the PC-exclusives, the ones that never hit consoles. Dota 2 and League of Legends, for instance, both of which I got into recently, are great games, and LoL in particular is HUUUUUUUUGE. Or there's the absolutely phenomenal Anno 2070, which is from Ubisoft.... bloody incredible game, that one.

If you're having trouble staying interested in console games..... seriously consider simply moving away from them and exploring what PC gaming..... both indie and otherwise..... have to offer. It can be a HUGE difference.
