I have no idea where my character is in relation to the stuff I see, and I find it really tricky to turn around, so I end up wallbonking all the time. (Only first person game where this didn't bug me was Portal 2, because you're playing as a brain-injured character, so I had a within-story reason to be wallbonking.)
Maybe it's because of the field of view...a lot of modern games (especially console ones) have a very narrow FOV for some reason, usually 70° or less. Portal 2 lets you change it back to 90° (or higher, in widescreen), but I don't remember what it defaults to.

What I really have an issue with is tall third person characters, who walk on the left or right side of the screen. I cannot play games like batman because of this - I spend the whole time craning my neck as though I could see round them if I try....
Ugh, I
hated that. I spent the whole demo wondering what was to the left of me, and hoping enemies didn't come running into my blind spot.
Resident Evil 4 was like that too, but nowhere near as bad as Arkham Asylum.
