I think your all missing the rather large flaw with handheld games and App gaming

with a handheld, if you want sound quality you have to wear headphones and the screen is small.

the console is still the only game that you can play on a giant flat screen TV while sitting on a couch with loads of time to kill.

honestly the last one is the most important. Since when could any app game or even handheld match the majesty that is console mega series like ME, Halo, Final fantasy, or even GTA

Sorry, I should have been more specific

I will agree that PC games are definitely in the same league as console games (whether or not they are equal, or better is an opinion). The comparison I was trying to make had more to do with handheld games or apps.

PC games can have the potential to be much better than consoles, providing developers make it possible to increase the games performance significantly, like Battlefield or Crysis. The handheld market has certainly increased with phone specs and quality of games getting better and better. Ideal for some fun games on the go, but the small screen and no physical controls just isn't for me for long playthroughs. The OUYA console is interesting as it combines both, the ability to buy android games and play them on your TV with a controller.

Misplaced paranoia; these mobile platforms might play Angry Birds better, but they can't play anything remotely close to PCs/consoles can. I think the two will co-exist, with simpler, gameplay driven games being more on mobile platforms and immersive, story driven ones on console. I do think, however, that the consoles will get smaller. Not much to improve graphics/control layout t this point, the tools are nearly endless for games. Soon we'll have PS Vita style consoles that can play console quality games on the go!
